I'd like to know what are the most popular type of prizes people would like to win.

I have been pulling together a number of suppliers so we can have 3 prizes at the end of the season for the best players.

There will be a first, second, and third prize.

PLUS... there will also be at least one encouragement award and/or one referee's award.

I'm also trying to work out a way of delivering a prize to the grandfinal winning team although this is going to be difficult to divide up.
Maybe someone can help out with a solution there.

I think these should be the awards:

Best Poster
then two peoples awards for posting
Best captain
Encouragement Award

Best Referee as voted by the players.

I think that a jersey from your fave team would be the best one... I also like Mick's idea.

What a bloody fantastic idea! I've voted for the jersey as well, that would be a brilliant prize.

Suggestion: How about some dinky avatars for some other awards, like "Rookie of the Year", "Most Controversial Poster" and that sort of thing?

And secondly, how would the awards be decided? Would you be looking for nominations and input from team captains or will there be a smaller 'judging panel' to make the decisions?

Currently, the best players are decided by the referees and these results are posted by The Backpacker.
But the awards stretch beyond that so keep the ideas flowing...

Just to expand on that LeagueNut:
I can always just make it up but I prefer feedback from forummers.

The best three players are set in stone by the referee scores.

But in the great tradition of the carnies, everyone is a winner! That's where the special awards come into play (eg "Encouragement Award", "Rookie of the Year", "Most Controversial Poster" etc).

I'm of the opinion these 'special' awards should be via nomination from team captains but the method is all open to suggestion.

The idea being that even latecomers are in the running to pick up something for their efforts.

How about some others like team of the year which necesariuly doesn't have to be the winning team. ie Souths for their improvement etc...

Most valuable player to a team again not necessariuly from the winning team. This way someone gets recongised for the good work they put in..

Just some silly suggestions to spread the avatars around or small prizes..

I think that this is a great idea but would these sonsors really fork out that much cash? And how will the players receive there prizes? You would have to post them. Can we nominate some awards as well and maybe have a vote on things like the MVP poster and best team. Once again Willow you deliver with a great idea to encourage the forum sevens. ;-)

We have done similar things in the past with tipping comps and there was picture competition as LWOS once.

The sponsors are really business contacts and Leagueunlimited.com has accounts with certain suppliers. For example, last year, Classic sportwear supplied some jerseys for our tipping comp in exchange for a small banner on our site.

Classic are still there but this year, we have a software company on board as well as a Kangaroo Tour company (sorry folks, I don't think they're going to offer a free trip to the UK...lol). Basically, we either are given the stuff to giveaway or we buy it at below wholesale price... in any case, the prizes are free to the winners.

The prizes are sent by Australia Post (registered) and there are prizes to choose from as you can see... if you win and would rather have the second prize for example, I can't see a problem with that. But its restricted to what we can be supplied. If you have any additional ideas or preferences, let us know here and I'll see what can be done.

Its a just way of encouraging people to play while at the same time thanking people for putting in the effort and making the website (Leagueunlimited.com, The Front Row forums and the Forums Sevens) a better place.

Looks like the jersey is the most popular prize by miles...!

Best captain like i said before, and its voted by the people.

I say give the players the majority vote in a lot of the things, except the points tally, everything else, the people should decide.

I agree.

And the thought that I might be able to win something makes those dark days of last December/February with the Eels all the more worth it. I almost quit the game.

Not a bad idea. Although there were other players who no doubt helped the team to get to the grand final who should also qualify.

i think the awards should also be made into special "FORUM 7" banners so people can show off what award theyve won.

eg
Forum 7s 2003 season
Most improved player
[players name]

just a suggestion though.

and there should be 10-12 awards of various degrees, though not all to get major prizes.

OK...
With only one round to play before the semis (fulltime 10 September), the top forummers awards will be as follows:

The Prizes (after round 10)
The top three forummers will be decided by The Backpacker's 'Forums Sevens Awards' thread.
A Choice between...
3 months FREE internet access,
OR 12 months FREE internet access,
OR your favourite team jersey.

First prize winner gets first selection, second prize winner gets second selection and third prize gets whatever is left.

Other categories (after Grand Final):
The prizes for these categories will be the glory of having it on your avatar plus a neat F7s certificate as your trophy.
(NB: decision makers in brackets are open to discussion)
Forum Sevens Captain of the Year (decided by the referees)
Forum Sevens Referee of the Year (decided by the captains)
Rookie of the year (decided by referees)
Best individual score of the year
Best team score of the year
Most improved forummer of the year (nominations and then decided by referees)
Most controversial forummer of the year (nominations and then decided by referees)
Most improved team of the year (decided by poll)
Most valuable players of the year (one from each team and decided by the captains)
The Grand Finalists:
