Roosters players Anthony Minichiello and Craig Wing were dragged through the media and have had their reputations damaged over the past fortnight.
Below is a media release from the NSWRL that confirms the players have been exonerated from one of the unsubstantiated media claims.
We support the penalties handed down to the players, however we feel it important to provide you with the findings below as they received scant media coverage at the weekend.
MEDIA RELEASE - Friday, 28 May 2004
The NSWRL has received a written report clearing two NSW players of claims made to the media last week that they harassed a woman on a Darlinghurst street.
The exhaustive report prepared by an independent investigator includes interviews with journalists, police, security officers, hotel staff, independent witnesses and security footage.
These corroborate the statements made by players when interviewed by the NSWRL last week.
The report has produced no evidence to support the claims, NSWRL Chairman, Mr Colin Love, said today.
The clear conclusion from the interviews, the video footage and other evidence is that this alleged incident simply didnt take place.
The NSWRL Board is facing up to a number of issues that need to be addressed from the first origin camp and a number of players have been disciplined.
However, it is also! important that the air is cleared on all matters and, in this instance, the report shows that the two players who were named last week have clearly been the victims.
