Rose begins to blossom.

George Rose has confirmed he belongs in top company at Manly.

The 116kg front-rower slipped away quicker than a cut snake, on his way to his first try in the NRL.

Appropriately for Rose it came against his old club the Roosters at the tail-end of Saturday night's match at Aussie Stadium.

``It was awesome,'' he said. ``I got through the (defensive) line, looked up, saw the line and thought, `Geez, what am I going to do'?

``I thought I'd just keep running. The line was getting closer and closer. I thought, `I'm not stopping now' and just kept going for it.

``To get a win and also score a try against them feels great.''

The effort proves Rose is well on his way to establishing himself in Manly's squad. He joined the Sea Eagles from the Roosters having played just five first grade games since making his NRL debut in April 2004.

After a slow start to 2006 the 23-year-old is now hopeful a permanent spot can be found among Manly's pack. ``I'm still pretty new to first grade,'' Rose said.

``I'm trying to get used to the different style of game from Premier League.

``But I'm really enjoying my football here and hopefully I'll make a home of it.''

The Bathurst-born prop arrived at Manly summer training in October weighing a massive 122kg.

He soon shed 10kg before settling on his current playing weight.

``Ideally I'd like to lose more. It might give me a chance of playing more,'' Rose said of his weight.

``But I'm not really fussed about it. As long as I'm getting around the field.''

Rose attributed his improving form to Manly forwards coach Steve Roach and recruitment officer Noel Cleal.

``They have helped me with my tackling technique, my off-loading and my footwork,'' he said of the tutelage passed on from the former internationals.

``You've got to have something extra other than being big.''
