Oh, and I think it is pretty p!ss weak to write your own team off before the first round has even started.....it may very well be another poor season, but too early to call that right now.

I'm not necessarily with Price on Witt vs Williams, but to see people still bagging him for selecting Ah Mau is staggering. Clearly they either didn't watch the CS, or watched with anti Leeson blinkers on. He was just about the player of the game, let alone our best.

As for Price not building for the future, well I thought it would be clear to all that unless he wins some games early he doesn't have one. A coach's first priority is to win, now. The rest builds on that. Bennett is a prime example of this.

He is hardly going to be altruistic about it all and think to himself "Bugger it, I'll just blood a few younguns and put some future structures in place so that the bloke who comes in after we experience some losses has it set up for him"". He's fighting for his livelihood. Of course he wants wins. Rightly or wrongly, this is how he thinks he's going to do it. Ffs, be sensible people.

sensible is not letting other peoples opinions get you too worked up. Who really cares if some of us are freaking out

IMO the team we've selected for the weekend is rubbish...that's my 2 cents worth.

Witt / Williams
I don't think the selections are a farce but the Witt at 7 smacks of desperation. dino is right in that he's done a sort of Bennett with Witt, an older experienced hooker / half being added instead of some untested up and comer. Price is desperate for a win ( he's toast otherwise and he knows it ) so to him Witt is less of a risk. I don't like it but I can live with it for now.

K.Stanley.
Bench hooker / utility. I don't think this is of any benefit to the team. With Thompson on the bench we have all the utility we need - he can cover for any backline or 2nd row injuries and slot in somewhere if Witt had to go to hooker or Quinlan to the halves. Another prop on the bench would be more useful.

Props.
I like our starting props, Hunt and DeBelin, because they both run straight and hard ( no mucking around and trying to off-load ) and are both strong and tireless defenders. They're not big but they'll make metres and I'm looking forward to them working together and putting on some big hits.

Back row.
I never liked Creagh as prop, hope he gets back to his best in the 11 jersey. I've argued for our props ( including Ah Mau and Merrin ) to play as props, especially Merrin and to lead our team from the front and up the middle but they don't listen to me. But Merrin has played alright at lock to date and Ah Mau can make great metres out wide so I'm not going to complain too much about these selections.
I will say though, again it smacks of Pricey's desperation for a win, I mean starting with a pack of ( arguably ) 5 props is not what you'd call subtle. But then.......

The bench.
No impact here. It's that simple. We can only hope the starting 13 put on a good show and that the "5 Props" play long minutes ( except Hunt in his comeback game I'd assume ). I'm not saying the bench guys are no good but they're not going to set the game on fire when they run on, 3 smallish back rowers and Style.

Our chances.
I have no idea. I'm hoping Pricey and the boys do great things this year but I'm not as confident as I have been in the past ( I blame you lot, partly, for that, ya bloody whingers :D ). The bar has been set about as low as it can be and I'm still not confident of any great improvement, hopeful, ridiculously optimistic as usual but not confident.

We can win though, we must.

Firstly, let me say that I don't agree with our team selections for this week....but I will always support my team no matter who runs out onto the field. Price may be out of his depth, struggling....but he is still the coach of the team I support. So while he holds that position, I will support his decisions, cheer my team on for a win, and drop just as many f-bombs after another disappointing weekend after a loss.

I won't bag our coach's team selections before they have even run out onto the field. The coach will live or die by his own actions.

I guess I don't have the same expertise as many around here do....why aren't you guys coaching an NRL team? I reckon your team would be a chance at breaking the 12 in row premiership record.

Good man...or woman ! Well said. Go Dragons !

Don't have an issue with that, everyone is entitled to have a view.
What I have an issue with is people inferring Price should disregard trying to pick a side to win, now, and instead pick a side to build for the future.
Who's future?
Unless he gets wins, he himself has no future.

And there lies the problem of the past 2 and a bit years, lack of foresight and always playing veterans to protect his own job, therefore there is no growth from within. If he was winning and even killing it, I don't think people would mind. After two years of the same, picking favorites and playing it safe, it get's very tedious.

It's not just Price, it's those above him too who allow this to continue, I used to never bag Doust but now I'm not so sure.

It's not about winning or losing on the weekend...it's about building a TEAM. We cannot build a team around a 30 year old journeyman. If he has devised some sort of plan to win a few games at the start of the year and then draft in the future prospects, he is more delusional than I thought!

If he is only coaching to save himself, then he is in it for all the wrong reasons. He can get a pay check working at Coles. Coaching requires passion and a strength of conviction, not backwards thinking, and survival techniques.

i think Witt will surprise you guys. Will probably only get a few good games out of him. He's the experienced half you need to help some early wins especially over some sides like Tigers who aren't really that great.

I was at the charity shield as dad is a huge souths fan but watching williams and widdop i felt widdop felt like he needed to do more himself and try and create off almost every ball but once witt came into the halves he (Widdop) was able to relax and you guys started to score some points. Witts kicking game is better than Williams'

Am I the only one who thinks he actually picked the best team? Obviously best without duges but still it's a great team. I'm all for Stanley on the bench I think this year he is sure to shine as a halfback/bench utility. Keep in mind Williams Witt and Stanley are all of contract at the end of year not all of em will be re signed I think Stanley will become the better option out of all of them. We will have to wait and see. So excited footy is finally back

I expect Thompson & Frizell to have an impact, but Thompson might start & Creagh replace Hunt in the front row. I think Brooks will have plenty of traffic heading his way too.
