Jeez I am burning today!! Have woken up extremely pumped, extremely excited. Rise and shine Souths fans, what a game day we have here! We take on the Storm, a huge nemesis of ours up there and Suncorp in one of the most special Rounds of the year, Magic Round. Gonna be a big one.
We all know our terrible record against Melbourne. Honestly, it's absolutely ridiculous. 38 games against them throughout history, with just 6, yes, 6, wins against them all time. That is insane. they've won 9 of the last 10 too. As I said I'm absolutely burning today. Sick of these purple pricks constantly having the wood over us, absolutely sick of it. Doesn't matter how good we're going either; they always seem to get one over us and dominate us. So friggin over it and I can't stand to see it go on like that any longer. So, it's time for the men in Red and Green to stand up tonight, stand tall and say, "we're not going to take this anymore." It's time for us to get one over them for once. It's time to dish it out to them for once, and it's time to turn the tables. We have to, we just have to.
I admit, it's not going to be easy at all. We've had some really tough games in recent weeks, some really big games and we've performed well but playing this Storm outfit is right up there with the toughest. They had a slow start to the year but have been firming recently to show that Storm form of old and charge up the ladder. They've more than got their Season on track and have proven very hard to beat. When you look across their side, it's not hard to see why. So many strike players. Meaney, Olam, Hughes, Munster, Grant. Then they have one of the better packs in the game lead by NAS and Welch. So, we've got our work cut out for us to retain them. Probably the biggest threats for mine are no doubt Grant and Munster as always. It's a lot easier said than done but if you can limit them, it goes a long way to winning. This is also why the forward battle is so crucial. Win that through the middle and it makes that task a bit easier.
For us, this is the final big test from a testing first 10 weeks of the comp. We've passed some big tests that have come our way the last few weeks but if we can somehow pass this test too, it'd be huge. Tonight, is a chance, a real opportunity to make a big statement and stamp our authority on this comp as we approach halfway in the Season. Whoever wins this game, will rocket up the scale in terms of being Premiership favourites so let's make sure that's us. It all starts with the attitude and how we begin the game. Surely, we learnt that from last time we met. We have to turn up in the right headspace or they'll make us pay. It's a huge game so the boys have to want it and they have to want it bad. I also want focus, real focus on every moment. If we can get our game right, we will be hard to stop. I feel like I say that every week but it's so true. You can't give the Storm chances; we can't beat ourselves. Minimise your errors, complete your sets, build pressure. The boys have to take their chances too, we didn't do that last time we met so I hope we're better this time. But as always, probably the biggest thing in this one is our defence, as it so often is. We've been outstanding in this area but they simple cannot drop their bundle. It's a big test for our defence and I hope the boys are up to it.
Adding to what is already a huge occasion, is the fact that it's one of our favourite son's milestone game. The great Alex Johnston, AJ, reaches 200 games tonight. A huge night for him and his family, but also the club. This guy has given us so much over the last nine years to become one of, if not, the greatest wingers in South Sydney history. He's broken the all time try scoring record for Souths and could be set for more records in the game hopefully. A great man and a great clubman, a South Sydney legend. Congrats AJ, been a pleasure to watch all 200 of your games so far and I wish you all the best. I hope we can get this result for you.
Jeez I am pumped! I know I said it before but I'm just burning today, that's the best way I can describe it. Want to win this game and get one over them for once so, so bad. Really want to do it for AJ too. I believe our boys can do it and make a huge statement in the process. Let's send another warning out to the competition that South Sydney is coming, and we are coming in hot. Let's goooooooooooooo!!!!
Glory, Glory.
