PANTHERS END TOYOTA CUP WINNING STREAK

The Dragons Toyota Cup side has tonight been defeated by the Panthers 28-24, ending their nine match winning streak at WIN Stadium.

The Dragons had the better of the start with four sets of six at the Dragons line but they were unable to turn it into points in the greasy conditions.

After the early onslaught the Panthers finally got possession and it didn’t take long for them to register their first points after 11 minutes of play. It was through lock forward Joel Romelo who received a short pass to go over next to the right upright. The try was converted by five-eighth Harry Seijka.

The visitors went over again six minutes later through winger Michael Fualalo and it was off the back of a penalty and the Panthers just had too much momentum and Fualalo went over in the north-western corner. Seijka converted and the Panthers were now in front 12-nil.

The Dragons answered back with two of their own tries and the first one coming in the 21st minute through Clifford Morris. It was a Beau Henry short ball that put Morris through to score. Henry converted to bring the score back to 12-6.

Brad Hudson grabbed the second try after an attacking raid on the Panthers right side. Henry converted to level the scores at 12-all after 27 minutes of play.

Panthers winger Michael Fualalo grabbed his second try of the night after a play down the short side caught the Dragons defence napping. Seijka couldn’t convert with the score now 16-12 after 32 minutes.

On the stroke of half-time the Dragons were able to grab the lead back with Henry streaking over to score much to the excitement of the crowd. He converted and the red and whites went to the break leading 18-16.

After the break the Panthers were able to score the first points of the half with lock Joel Romelo scoring his second try. He broke the first line of defence and stepped off his right foot to go pass Henry Raiwalui and score under the posts. Seijka converted with the score now 22-18 in favour of the Panthers.

The lead was extended when five-eighth Harry Seijka went over for the Panthers and after converting his own try the Panthers had a 10 point lead, 28-18.

In the 70th minute the Dragons were on the attack and desperately needed to score next and prop forward Ken Edwards managed to crash over under the uprights. Henry quickly converted to close the gap to 28-24.

The Dragons were unable to score any further points and the Panthers had claimed victory.

Eels 52 - Sharks 4 - Full Time in Toyota Cup

The Pirtek Parramatta Eels have swamped the Sharks in a wet Toyota Cup encounter, scoring ten tries to one to run out 52-4 winners.

Albert Kelly bagged a hat trick while wingers Brad Graham and Nathan Gardner scored two tries each as the Eels produced a masterful display of wet weather football.

The Sharks struck first through a try to fullback Haydn Peacock, however the home side recovered to dominate the half and indeed the match, heading into the break leading 20-4 on the back of four straight tries.

Halfback Kelly laid on the Eels first, with Graham latching onto a well weighted grubber to score just in from the left touchline.

Gardner then crossed wide out to make it eight-four, before Rory Brien beat the defensive line for pace to score his second Toyota Cup try in three appearances.

Gardner converted the Brien try to make it 14-4 to the Eels midway through the first half.

Kelly scored himself to round out the half, the Eels leading by 16 into the break.

The procession continued after the resumption, with tries close to the posts from interchange forwards Kene Te Whata and Joel Latham seeing the Eels streak away to lead by 32-4.

Kelly bagged a 50-metre intercept try with 28 minutes remaining, and he got his hat-trick soon after, taking on and beating the defensive line from first receiver to make it 42-4 the Eels way.

Despite the conditions the Eels had no problem hanging onto the ball, Graham getting his second off another kick into the in goal 18 minutes from time.

Gardner then defied the wind and rain to convert from the sideline, edging the Eels ever closer to the half century at 48-4.

The fifty was eclipsed with 10 minutes left to play after some good work down the short side from second rower Pat O’Hanlon, who attracted two defenders before slipping a pass for Gardner to score in the corner.

The winger was unable to repeat his sideline heroics with the boot however the rout was complete, the Eels winning 52-4.

Just a bit of trivia the Bulldogs have been involved in all 4 of the Highest Scoring Matches in Toyota Cup History.

 • Bulldogs & Canberra Raiders scored a total of 88 points in their Round 7 match at Canberra Stadium. (Final Score 52-36 Bulldogs). (It beat the previous record which was between the Canterbury Bulldogs & Sydney Roosters. They scored a total of 82 points in their 2008 Round 16 match at the Sydney Football Stadium. (Final Score 56-26 Bulldogs).

 • Bulldogs & Melbourne Storm scored a total of 84 points in their Round 11 match at Bluetongue Stadium. (Final Score 54-30 Melbourne Storm).

 • Newcastle Knights & Bulldogs scored a total of 84 points in their Round 12, 2009 match at the EnergyAustralia Stadium. (Final Score 42 all)

 • Bulldogs & Sydney Roosters scored a total of 82 points in their Round 16 match at the Sydney Football Stadium. (Final Score 56-26 Bulldogs)

Vodafone Junior Warriors settle for draw
The Vodafone Junior Warriors had to be content with a 24-24 draw with Wests Tigers after conceding a 77th-minute try in today's 12th-round NYC clash at Mount Smart Stadium.

It was a disappointing finish for the home side as they seemed on target to reverse their 28-42 loss to Canberra last week.

They had fallen 12-18 behind after 55 minutes but rebounded with winger Bill Tupou's second try in the 64th minute, levelling the contest up at 18-18.

And the with just six minutes to go hooker carved through to score, Shaun Johnson's conversion taking the Vodafone Junior Warriors out to a 24-18 lead.

Unfortunately they couldn't defend the advantage as the Tigers evened up at 24-24 to leave boths sides with a point each.

That took to Vodafone Junior Warriors to 11 points.
