Katoa on the bench is such a waste. He has no impact and I dont think he is first grade material.

Im not sure if thats just my opinion... anyone else view him differently?

I agree. We have much better quality that can use the spot.

I did but last week was a bit underwhelming. He is a skilled guy with a nice kicking game. Unfortunately for him every time he plays we lose.

He just seems like a Craig Trindall type. Really good NSW Cup player but NRL level doesn't seem up to it.

Granted he has time on his side and I hope he kicks on but I don't think he's the future hooker of this club.

Penrith's time allowed to hold players down in tackles is about five seconds less than other teams, as evidenced against Souths. So I'm just going to put out the bold bet that we are going to lose the penalty account again despite how much quicker and cleaner we leave the ruck in comparison to Manly. Also, whenever we try to re-build our pace in attack, Manly will make sure Mansour, Blake or whoever won't get to play the ball for about 12 seconds after they get tackled. We will make an error soon after as a result of us trying to re-build pace again.Manly will get the ball and get a penalty for some bullshit reason then score off a kick. The game will continue like this until it's the 78th minute and we get consolation penalty and try, thus making the penalty count look that little bit less horseshit.Sorry for the spoiler alert, Manly to win the penalty count by at least 4 despite possession being relatively equal.

P.S before someone says I'm saying this to purely take away from all of the negative talk about Griffin and co, my feelings and views have already been posted repeatedly by the majority of people on this forum and there's nothing I can say that expands and adds to the topic. However this is a significant issue that isn't talked about as much and I feel I can still contribute in posts like this whilst still not being ousted as someone that's making up excuses to cover up the team's flaws. The referees have been consistently dog shit in our matches this season.Fact.

Kind regards,

I've said the same before. We are policed in the tackle a lot harsher than our opposition.

Yeah, unfortunately he didn't get much of a chance to show himself on Sunday, played solid. Katoa has played a bit of lock in NSW Cup and played there off the bench against Souths back in Round 6 so there's some flexibility there at least.

I do think you are on the money here, but why do you think this is? Do the refs not like our coach/style of play, or is it even deeper, and we are being squeezed out of the comp altogether, this being far more difficult if we are successful on the field? And why does the club not appear to be doing anything about it, like talk to the refs boss?

Under Elliott, we used to get hammered by the refs, but once Cleary took over, it all stopped. Now it's happening again.

I don't know, 2015 was pretty bullshit as well.

Tony Archer comes out after rounds 3 and 4 to say the decisions to disallow our tries on the basis that there wasn't conclusive evidence to overturn the on field decisions was the correct one, then came out after round 5 to say the decisions were justifiably overturned against us because it had sufficient evidence. He was even questioned further by the guy behind the camera and he said "you never actually needed conclusive evidence to overturn decisions just sufficient lul #edgy".

The Cowboys game in round 5 that year still remains the game that I was most pissed off after.Even more than when we played Roosters this year.Albeit by not a lot.

But to build off what you said, our bed was made when Gus said on Twitter we will never complain about referees after the Roosters game.

No reason to be lenient to us in terms of penalties equal to or more so than a team that will actually make something out of it.

I like Katoa, hasn't shown his value in firsts yet but the potential is there. Hopefully he gets some time as a running backrower today. I think he can do some damage with his quick leg speed and strength around the ruck.

Is today the first time we beat a side in the top 8 since September 11, 2016? (August 27, 2016 if we don't count finals).

Hope springs eternal!

Just had a look at some numbers; here is Griffin's record against top 8 sides as a coach:

At Brisbane:
2011: W6 L4
2012: W3 L9
2013: W3 D1 L8
2014: W4 L8

At Penrith:
2016: W4 L7
2017: W0 L7

TOTAL: W20 D1 L43 (31% winning record)

Good luck vs Manly! I always prefer the western teams to beat these lots. They are too pretentious to even wear their teams colors to games, instead preferring to dress up like they are going to a job interview! Please put the final chapter in DCE's career!

*Sips Elephant Poo* Cheers

That says it all really. Our success last year was from a run against poor teams.

So Hooks one and only good season against top 8 sides was Darren Lockyers farewell season.

Thats probably the most convincing stat that we are never going to be contenders with him.
