WTF with Ciraldo surely we have someone else. He must have a photo of Stoney in an uncompromising postion with a goat.

he's solid defensively... offers absolutely nothing with the ball, though.
... then again the same could be applied to around 80% of our squad atm ;-)

*edit* the offers nothing in attack part that is

Team Announcement with Rick Stone
By Stephen Mount - Eclipse
20/07/2011 10:18:45 AM

Knights Coach, Rick Stone has named inspirational skipper, Kurt Gidley in an 18 man squad ahead of Saturday’s Round 20 clash against the Sharks.
Gidley returns after a week on the sideline with a hamstring strain and replaces the in-form Wes Naiqama, who was forced from the field last weekend with a triceps injury, in an otherwise unchanged Newcastle backline.
“It’s disappointing for Wes because he’s been one of our most consistent performers all year. Fortunately Kurt is right to go and I expect his leadership and energy to have a big impact this week,” said Stone.

Despite initial fears, Kiwi international, Junior Sau underwent precautionary scans on a suspected neck injury this week and has responded to treatment – he’s expected to receive specialist clearance before the team bus departs for the Shire on Friday.
“We were all worried for Junior last weekend but his scans have returned positive results. We’ll wait for a final call from our medical staff but we’re confident he’ll be playing this weekend.”

Another strong performance by Antonio Kaufusi has secured a starting spot again this week, he’ll join Richie Fa’aoso and Issac DeGois in the front row while Chris Houston, Neville Costigan and Joel Edwards make up the back row.
“Antonio has earned himself another run this week. He really stepped up last weekend and led from the front and we’ll be looking for a similar performance against one of the NRL’s most dominating packs.”

Meanwhile, a virus that swept through the camp claiming Mark Taufua and utility, Matt Hilder in the lead up to last week’s loss to Manly appears to have passed with both named on the interchange bench, bolstering the Knights chances of a return to the top eight.
“Mark appears to be on the mend and while Matt isn’t quite out of the woods just yet, he’s improving by the day. We’re hoping to have him back in full training in the next day or so.”
“Matt gets through an enormous workload in the middle of the park. With him and Isaac DeGois both available I expect us to be a different side this week.
&#8220;With a strong performance against Cronulla we can certainly be back in the hunt for our return home against the Titans on Sunday week.&#8221;http://bigpondvideo.com/NRL_Knights/373370<br />

Knights captain Kurt Gidley back on deck for Sharks clash
BY BRETT KEEBLE
20 Jul, 2011 04:00 AM

Knights coach Rick Stone expects the return of captain Kurt Gidley against Cronulla at Toyota Stadium on Saturday night to lift the spirits of his confidence-sapped team.
Gidley has been named at fullback to replace the injured Wes Naiqama, who will see a specialist tomorrow to determine whether he needs season-ending surgery on a torn triceps.
The inspirational skipper and NSW and Australian utility aggravated a hamstring injury in Newcastle’s 22-12 loss to the Cowboys nine days ago, then missed the 32-10 mauling Manly dished out last Sunday.
The Knights have slipped to ninth as a result of those consecutive home losses but Stone believed Gidley would boost morale and provide a steadying influence.
After beating the Roosters and Dragons without Gidley, the loss to Manly means the Knights have won just four of the past 15 games they have played without the 29-year-old dynamo.
Gidley will be checked later in the week but completed training yesterday and was confident of lining up against the Sharks, who were savaged 38-8 by the Dragons at Kogarah on Monday. Having selected Gidley at fullback, Stone named Ryan Stig and Jarrod Mullen in the halves.
‘‘Getting Kurt back will be a bonus. It’s always a big confidence boost for our team, to have our skipper back,’’ Stone said.
‘‘The composure and the belief he brings to the boys is always tremendous, and I don’t think it will be any different on this occasion.
‘‘Playing him fullback can help in a number of ways, but we believe it’s probably Kurt’s best position, and with the injury to Wes ... if we’re going to replace a bloke who’s been going pretty well at fullback, it’s probably good to have your captain back there.
‘‘The way he organises our defence and can slip into our attacking game in most forms is probably the right sort of balance for us.’’
Sharks coach Shane Flanagan named captain Paul Gallen but the whole-hearted Cronulla and NSW skipper will be on light duties after being replaced with a calf strain against the Dragons.
Naiqama will be sidelined for at least six weeks after tearing a triceps muscle against Manly and he will learn tomorrow if his season is over.
Regular fullback understudy Shannon McDonnell, who was scheduled to have shoulder surgery last week, will now have that operation next Tuesday and could have played his last game for the Knights.
Neville Costigan had ice strapped to his right knee yesterday but Stone anticipated the premiership-winning former Dragons forward would be ready to play against the Sharks.
Costigan had minor surgery three weeks ago to trim torn cartilage and, in an unhappy return against Manly, made several handling errors, but Stone anticipates steady improvement as he regains to full fitness.
‘‘Nev came back for his first game from knee surgery and played 70 tough minutes,’’ he said.
‘‘He just needs to be monitored and have a slightly different training regime to most of the players at this point in time, but we’ll gradually increase his workrate through the week as his body gets used to playing time and his knee responds in the right way.’’
Cronulla’s 30-point loss to the Dragons ended a four-game winning streak and left the Sharks in 10th position on 18 points, just one place and two points behind Newcastle.
‘‘We’re two similar teams coming off significant defeats, and both desperate as far as the context of the competition is concerned,’’ Stone said.
‘‘We definitely need two points to stay alive in that mire around seventh, eighth, ninth, 10th place, so I think you’ll find two pretty desperate footy sides, and that’s what I’m expecting from my team.’’
Forwards Matt Hilder and Mark Taufua, who missed the Manly game due to a stomach virus, were named on a five-man bench.
