Whys everyone so determined to play martin at prop?

Freddy didnt play him there in origin? Hes not going to get bigger. Hes fully filled out. 183cm and 104kgs. Hes plenty filled out. Gets any bigger and hell just lose fitness, leg speed and mobility. The last two are which make him so dangerous. Out wide he always lands on his belly and gets quick the balls. Against the storm the other week he was very well contained playing in the middle and that was without all their big boppers even playing.

Hes had good games at prop znd know doubt he could fill in there well but undoubtedly his hest games have been at 2nd row.

Like kikau, i think at times we are guilty of not giving him enough early ball just to do his thing. Him and kikau mostly just get it at the line which takes away their effectivenesd

Agree with all of this. Martin is an above average prop, but he is a gun 2nd rower who scatters defenders, makes breaks, is somewhat elusive at times and usually has a quick PTB.

A 2nd rower should be able to do a bit of setting up for the outside guys. The reason he has a quick PTB is because he isn't doing anything with the ball.

I'd rather a slightly slower PTB because the edge guys are fighting to offload.

Same here. He was off early - silly passes, missed tackles. But he worked his way back in - started running and making a few holes then he was a different player to what we have seen over the last 4 weeks.
Tonight he played his role. Should never of been the 7.

The side as a whole will keep improving as guys comeback

Griffen blowing up that the bunker missed the shoulder charge
Nathen in the press conference said the dragons players brought it up on feild but it was checked and cleared by the bunker intersting

It was a shoulder charge by the very loose ruling they have

I do think our best centres next year would be tago/Crichton

Depends who we buy but a backrow rotation of Kikau, Martin and Sorensen is pretty bland.

Tago off the bench adds a bit of x factor. Momo still contracted. Taylan now debuted. Jennings has played a bit of centre. Jenkins looks like a beast as does Turuva. Hell even To'o was centre with Sivo on the wing in NSW Cup.

So there is plenty of outside backs internally BUT depends what is on the market. We should get the best edge player available if that is a backrower than Tago is centre. The flexibility allows options to be there

Nathan's so damn special. All the talk about his shoulder and first thing he does is rip down a rampaging Burns 1 on 1 close to the line, then goes and boots a disgusting bomb that Bird wasn't a hope of catching. Edwards and Luai both had their best game in months, clearly down to the pressure he takes off them. Our attack looked completely different with him making the right call over and over. Just outstanding. There's no way that man doesn't win a premiership in his time here if he stays healthy.

As to the rest, we made it harder for ourselves than it should have been but they didn't have anywhere near enough to go with us. Great tune up for the team before the Souths game. The new guys just keep improving, Hopgood, Sorensen and Tago were all really good. Fish, Api and TPJ to come there's plenty more improvement coming. Luai might be in trouble though.

The Crichton experiment was interesting. He got less involved on the whole, but he carried the ball back with way more venom as a winger than he does at centre. Not sure why he can't run that hard in his natural position.

Cummins is a joke of a ref. Just consistently awful, mostly (but not always) against us.

By the letter of the law it was a shoulder charge. I was shocked they didnt over turn the try. It may have been soft. I think he might get a fine only. Griffin certainly wasnt happy with it.
Shoulder charge is 200 points base, if he's charged it'll be a week with the early plea. Luai might get a fine.

Need to decide who our right winger is going to be and stick with him for the remainder of the games. Sure as hell not going to play Crichton there.
If Momirovski is right centre it really doesn't matter who is on the wing.

Crichton should be right centre. If Ivan likes Paul throw him on the wing so he can't cut out whoever is right winger. Although that's not a premiership winning decision IMO.

Personally I would have backed Staines and Crichton as our best right combination. They're great defensively and combine well to score tties. But don't mind if Taylan May gets a few games to prove he can finish tries too.

We need to think about what team beats Storm and we need speed to match Fox and Paps.

Think you are forgetting a certain shoulder charge. But he is special so it never happened.

My favourite part is in the post match interview where he says there was someone next to him so he couldn't lift his arm.

Ahh yes, I too remember having coaches so desperate to deflect from their shitty performances that they blew up about 50 50 calls in press conferences. Good times.

I understand Dragons supporters being sensitive about shoulder charges; the last one on Ravalala was hard to swallow.

And Cleary did get him with his shoulder. But is Cleary’s tackle really the one we need to get out of the game? Bird initiated the contact as much as Cleary did.

And quite funny that after a game when a young kid came on and did some really amazing stuff for the Dragons, some Dragons supporters are complaining about a so-so shoulder ‘charge’ when the Panthers were already up by 3 converted tries.

The worst non-call of the game was Clune not getting pulled up for taking out Cleary after the kick anyway. They were also very lucky to get the penalty (Cleary taking out kicker) that gave them the momentum that ended up keeping the scoreboard even moderately respectable.

Jog on trolls.

I'd be nervous May would make a rookie mistake in a big game like putting his foot on the side line or something with so few games before the GF/semi final game like that try he probably should have scored on his debut but I'd cautiously back him. Staines less likely to stuff up any try opportunities and has a great defensive combo with Critter but him and Edwards being rather small guys that can get crunched against a wall of defenders means a lot rides on To'o. He gets his quick play the balls away we're in business in a gf. If they rush up blunt him and someone else takes a one out hit up on a slow ptb next tackle we're in trouble. And Melbourne will rush up and try their best to blunt him on every run he takes. If anything they'll do it even more than they did in the gf.

Cameron Smith has talked about how they talked about To'o pre gf as much as they did about Cleary. That's an even bigger deal with Staines instead of Mansour on the other wing.

By this logic Dragons have their own special players who rules don't apply to? Or are they only "special" when it goes against the Dragons and it doesn't apply when Dragons player get away with things? Did you care this much when Dufty got away with one?

We are a year off having no backrow. Capwell gone, Martin will keep growing and be a middle and Kikau will be gone

Could have two titles by then. Would you be complaining? Worry about this year and then next. In a brilliant position.

Edwards was excellent

Luai is a different beast with Nathan

Burton is one hell of player. But is he an organising half? He gets space at centre and with his step and speed being put into half gaps he is easily the best centre in the game. In the halves he is solid. But has lots of work to do.

Momorski played fine. You guys are harsh.

Spencer,TPJ,JFH,Too,Korisau,May all to come back into the 17.
That's some fire power. I hope Tago isn't dropped. To important.

I'd almost lean towards Tago in centre amd Critchon wing over Staines. But that's just me. And based on a bench of

Spencer,TPJ,May,Martin.

How am i being silly hahaha

We have critta and momo as our only two centres.

Mays played mostly wing in juniors and nsw cup.

Turuvas a fb who can play a bit of centre at a pinch.

So critta and momo.

Yet at 2nd row we have 3 80min players. Sorensen has played on the edge a lot before at cronulla and i think he would really good there. Strong and mobile like martin with great leg speed and drive. He can also play big minutes.
Hopgood is mobile enough for lock and 2nd row.

We have much more seasoned nrl players and nrl ready rookies for the back row than we do at centre mate.

So no mate, no silly reason he has to be there lol. Its pretty easy really. The reason is its where hes been best. Its where his skills are best utilised. Its where he can play 80 and be an x factor the whole game. If youve watched cup as youd say youd now him and tiny have a brilliant combo together. Wallace played him at 2nd row in cup a bit when they had injuries and literally moved him back to centre during games cause his better there and he won games for them.

Buying a half decent 2nd rower who can come on for 10 or so for kiks and co or just play if theres injuries is much much cheaper and easier than getting a game breaking centre who is a strong defender who slready has a great combo with our possibly future winger taylan.
Who is the back up edge forward? Hopgood is a middle, Yeo is a middle. The fact that you are talking about three 80 minute backrowers is stupid especially if you are including Yeo. I am talking about edge forwards I made that clear in the previous post. Sorensen has been playing in the middle, he’s been average on the edge, you created a post praising Sorensen the other day and said he is a middle did you not?

You think we can just turn hopgood into an edge forward despite him playing in the middle but May or Turuva can’t play centre despite the fact they have have both played there in nsw cup this year? You are clutching at straws.

I understand why you want him to play centre, he’s been great there in nsw cup. You can just say you think centre’s his best spot and leave it there, trying to tell me he’s to small or we don’t have enough centre options is not going to work. If you think he’s the best centre option again you can just say that, it’s matter of opinion so I won’t argue.
