THE WOW Brisbane Broncos under-20s have shot to third place in the National Youth Competition after posting an imposing 40-12 victory against the Gold Coast Titans at Suncorp Stadium tonight.

Star performances from halfback Ben Hunt and second rower Matt Handcock, who both bagged two tries, allowed the Broncos to thump the Titans after trailing 6-nil early on.

Hunt stretched his side’s halftime lead of 22-6 in the 51st minute when he dived over for his second try in the 51st minute.

Jared Kahu slotted his fourth goal of the night to extend the Broncos lead to 28-6.

Broncos hooker Andrew McCullough bagged one of his trademark tries from dummy-half in the 63rd minute.

Kahu nailed the conversion from the sideline to give the home side a commanding 34-6 lead.

Hard running forward Josh McGuire then ran a beautiful line to bag his first try of the match.

Kahu was on fire with the boot once again to take the score to 40-6.

Titans hooker Geoff Holcombe scored a consolation try in the 75th minute to make the final score 40-12.

Earlier it was the away side that put on the first points of the match thanks to some poor Broncos defence in the 5th minute.

Titans centre Jordan Rapana ran 90m on the back of a scrum set play to register an early 6-nil lead.

Despite the great start, the Titans weren’t able to capitalise on a load of possession deep in Broncos territory.

Hunt then got his side on the board with a brilliant solo try in the 22nd minute.

Try-scoring ace Jharal Yow Yeh bagged his 21st try of the season just two minutes later, allowing Kahu to convert and give the Broncos a 10-6 lead.

The Broncos were in again in the 28th minute when Handcock barged over.

Kahu converted again to stretch the lead to 16-6.

Handcock then showed brut strength again to bag his second try of the night in the 38th minute.

Kahu nailed another easy kick to give the Broncos a 22-6 lead heading into the sheds.

BRISBANE BRONCOS 40 (B Hunt 2, M Handcock 2, J Yow Yeh, A McCullough, J McGuire tries; J Kahu 6 goals) def GOLD COAST TITANS 12 (J Rapana, G Holcombe tries; J Rapana 2 goals) at Suncorp Stadium.

EELS JUMP UP TOYOTA CUP LADDER

The Pirtek Parramatta Eels have jumped up the Toyota Cup ladder thanks to a 24-20 victory over the Bulldogs at the Crest Stadium.

The win sees the Eels move one point ahead of the Dogs on the competition standings two rounds out from the Finals, and they could finish the round as high as second on the ladder depending on other results.

It took 20 minutes for first points to be scored, Bulldogs winger Mason Pure strolling over off a Ben Barba cut out ball for a 4-nil lead.

Anthony Mitchell then got the Eels on the board, running 20 metres out of dummy half to touch down under the posts.

Nathan Gardner’s conversion put the Eels into the lead, and when Jonathon Mannah barged over from close range soon after it was extended out to 12-4.

Another Eels try, scored by Taniela Lasalo, saw the Eels sitting pretty at 16-4 on the run into half time, however a second to Pure got the Bulldogs back to a converted try behind at the break.

A Barba intercept try after the resumption leveled it up, which is where it stayed for much of the second half despite the home side enjoying the bulk of possession and field position.

An infringement in front of the posts allowed Gardner to kick the Eels back into the lead, before a jinking Albert Kelly put Daniel Mortimer over to seal the win just under 10 minutes out from full time.

Bulldogs replacement Pakisonasi Afu scored a try after the bell to reduce the final margin to four points, however the Eels had the win, 24 points to 20.

PUPS DEFEATED AND OUT OF TOP FOUR

The Bulldogs Toyota Cup side are back out of the top four after going down 24-20 against Parramatta at The Crest Stadium this afternoon.

Going into the contest the Bulldogs sat in third spot due to their impressive for-and-against. However, today's loss now puts them back in fifth spot behind Brisbane and Parramatta with Penrith and the Dragons still to play.

The blue-and-whites were first to score through Mason Pure in the 14th minute and when Ben Barba kicked the conversion the Bulldogs led 6-0.

After playing in the top grade over the past few weeks, the return of top point scorer Ben Barba was expected to lift the Bulldogs and despite getting off to a nice start, the Eels had other ideas as they crossed for three tries in the space of ten minutes to all of a sudden lead 16-6.

As the clock ticked away and approached halftime the Doggies clawed back once again through Mason Pure, scoring his 10th try in his 15th appearance. Barba added the extras and the score board read 16-12 in favour of the Eels.

The second half saw the two sides go toe-to-toe for the first 10 minutes before Barba got himself back in the Toyota Cup try scoring club when he dove over in the 55th minute. He failed to convert his own try and the scores remained locked at 16-a-piece.

An entertaining contest was unfolding and one that Parramatta expected to go down to the wire when they lined up for a penalty goal in the 63rd minute. They were successful and hit the front 18-16 with 15 minutes on the clock.

Domenic Nasso broke the Bulldogs back with a try five minutes from full time and the conversion from Nathan Gardner gave the visitors an eight-point buffer.

A late consolation try to Jeco Makatoa in the dying moments brought the margin to four and the final scoreline to 24-20 in favour of Parramatta. Both sides managed four tries however the difference was in the boot with Barba kicking just two from his four attempts

Tries: 4
Mason Pure (2), Ben Barba, Jeco Makatoa

MANLY BEAT WESTS TIGERS 38-16 IN TOYOTA CUP
By Wayne Cousins

Wests Tigers suffered a 38-16 loss to Manly Sea Eagles at ANZ Stadium today in round 23 of the Toyota Cup competition.

Manly opened the scoring in the second minute against Wests Tigers in the Toyota Cup when five-eighth Kieran Foran slipped past prop Chad Grant to run into a gap to score next to the posts.

Second-rower Kenny Edwards converted the try for a 6-0 lead.

Two minutes later, Edwards then beat some poor defence by Simon Dwyer and Matt Hyland to score out wide.

Edwards converted his own try to give Manly a 12-0 lead after seven minutes.

Wests Tigers hit back in the ninth minute when full-back Tim Moltzen put a grubber kick through to see the ball hit the goalpad for half-back Robert Lui to score under the posts.

Moltzen converted to leave Wests Tigers trailing 12-6 after 10 minutes.

Manly centre Jake Lingard then beat four defenders to score in the corner after the ball was spread across the field for a 16-6 lead. Edwards’ conversion attempt fell short of the posts.

A great run by winger Peni Tagive saw him beat three defenders to score in the corner in the 22nd minute to leave Wests Tigers trailing 16-10. Moltzen failed to convert the try from the sideline.

Manly stretched their lead to 20-10 when Inoke Tapaatoutai beat some feeble defence to score under the posts. Edwards converted the try for a 22-10 lead with six minutes remaining before half-time.

The score remained that way until half-time.

2nd Half

Wests Tigers got back to 22-14 in the 58th minute when Moses Pangai crashed his way over under the posts to score. Moltzen converted the try to leave Wests Tigers trailing 22-16.

Manly extended their lead to 26-16 when winger William Hopoate outleaped Tagive to score in the corner. Half-back Daly Cherry-Evans missed the conversion from the sideline.

The Sea Eagles went to a 30-16 lead when five-eighth Kieran Foran scored under the posts. Cherry-Evans converted the try for a 32-16 lead.

Manly secured the win when Cherry Evans put a crossfield kick for winger Teariki Peneha to score. Cherry-Evans converted the try for a 38-16 lead.

The score remained that way to full-time.
