Disappointing to lose a game we were in control of for a long period of on the back of uncharacteristic mistakes from Dyl and Blaze's inexperience.

Even with that though the Storm still got home in the back of some 50/50 calls. Coates first try I'm not confident he maintained it and the field goal?

Well Moses was penalised for impeding Grant but Grant chose a very indirect line and provided an Oscar winning performance to make it look that way. I'm not sure we should be rewarding that. Not to mention Munster was a mile offside but that was missed because everyone was distracted by the spectacular dive.

I kind of feel like the loss was necessary though. The longer we went without one the closer we were too one and I'd rather it be now then in September.

Grant deflected the question in the presser and his answers were embarrassing

Nath summed it up perfectly. You coukd hear ivan whisper just say the truth when they asked nath about it.

It was a deadset disgusting call from blokes in the box that have zero feel for the game.

Shit like that encourages milking. Such a terrible look for the game..

As others have said, we were in control for most of that game so it is a disappointing result but it's one of those good losses to have to reset us. There was too much hype so this should temper it somewhat. Give it to the other teams. Write us off at your own peril! We like it that way!

Other points:
- i wonder if we missed a trick by not resting Brian for this game? who cares if the narrative was that we were running scared of Coates - he's obviously tired & needs the rest. This was the game to do it. Ivan has to save him from himself! Alamoti could've easily slotted in. I've not seen him be dominated one on one ever let alone twice in the one match (try lost & conceded)
- missing our two punchiest forwards (Yeo & Patea) definitely brings us back down in the wet
- i dont know why Nathan didnt apply more kick pressure on Munster
- Blaize should've taken the hit but he was also put under pressure with the pass. Still want him to back himself. He'll have his chances to redeem
- Dyl has a yip in him - always has. hold my breath whenever he's running the ball back
- the NRL should not be rewarding dives especially from known repeat offenders eg. Grant & Moses. blight on the game. Klein even called him out for diving but still awarded the penalty. cost us a challenge too.

I've said this before, Melbourne has a very limited game plan.

Plan A, go to Katoa with a kick or isolate one defender.

Plan B, kick it to Coates

After that, control Munster and Grant, which were pretty good at that until golden point.

Stop half the success they had last night kicking it to Coates and we win. I can't put up any decent ideas on how we do it, but maybe just belt the ball dead and kick the crap out of the ball from the drop out and start again. But at this rate, Melbourne will score three tries every week just by kicking to Coates

We missed Yeo.

We don't really have a long kicking game. Nathan's kicking distance/hight is way down and has been all year

I was thinking the same tonight. His kicks where off. Too looks broken also. He's not making breaks

Was a hell of a lot more than just who was on the field at the time because we were dominate the first 15 mins of the second half with those same players on. The try swung momentum and Storm got rolling off the back of it.
Eiso came on after 44 minutes. Storm had only one try that came off back to back penalties and a tackle count reset. They couldnt make metres snd we were with ease.

He was on for 20 minutes and they scored in the 8th and 13th minute he was on. The first was because of Talagi pushing a pass. But that pass was pushed because we were really struggling for territory at that point. Momentum had seung Storm way. Because our middle went to shit.

Ultimately Talagi should’ve held the ball. Its no one else’s fault he threw the pass. But momentum clearly swung early that second half. Even before that try it felt like we were not making the same ground we were the first half .

It’s the 55min to 70min period where Panthers have faltered abit last 3 weeks.

They got out of jail against Titans, managed to stop the bleed against Knights and ultimately came undone against Storm.

If they fix that 15 min period (in second half up). They won’t lose momentum.

Now whether refs swing momentum in that period for square ups is another story all together.

The 2021 to 2022 Panthers would just blitz teams in the early second half with the Spencer Sorro one two punch.

If momentum was lost Ivan would take Leniu off.

He was using Patea in the role and it was working brilliantly until he got injured.

Disappointed with the loss obviously. The grant dive is an embarrassment for the NRL, expect to see more of it now. However, grants final play was very smart.

Lessons to be learnt from this Panthers, good to get it out of the way now and reset. We will be better for this loss.

Understood but we are running out of time. Its round 24.

Finals begin in a few weeks. If we want a 2025 premiership then we need to win these moments.
The loss last night under those circumstances, will add a little extra motivation. Whilst I was very disappointed, it came down to the cumulation of tiny moments and inches, the Coates tap back - Ipap was right there but stopped moving towards the ingoal to get in front of Chan. To’o dropping the ball in contact as he is about to score. Sure a couple of inches moments went our way too - Nathan’s try. There were other moments of course but those first two really spring to mind for me.

The side will take a lot from that loss. I think it is the reality check we need.

To'o was hit high twice when he dropped that

Disappointing loss, but plenty to learn from it. We know we have the game to beat them, just need to do it.

Long bow that one. Both tries came from their own half and were individual errors from our players both not the plod god, don’t think you can then blame it on momentum being lost through the middle.

You also need to credit him for the Sorensen try, which he actually played a part, if you’re finding a way to blame him for those two tries.

He’s no longer a world beater but in terms of what lost us the game, McClean, To’o, Talagi and Edwards all made errors / missed tackles that you wouldn’t expect them too.
