The whole post is spot on and the bit hi-lited is too true.
If I remember correctly Host was lying on the ground clutching his injured shoulder / arm when DCE scored, in fact DCE nearly had to jump over him to get to the ball. A fit player would have been up and into marker - possibly stopping that try. Mary did the same when K.Sims was injured - unnecessary and unforgivable. It's not like he doesn't have an interchange available. It's just one of the small areas where Mary & Co get it wrong and it costs us. I don't think he's such a bad coach overall but these basic blunders and poor use of the bench are really holding us back.
True.
As a coach, ok there are better ones out there, no question, but whether they were real options was questionable.
What I have noted as this season has progressed (potentially because his future was being determined) was that Mary can develop and has made changes to his trademark inept bench use.
We lost the first couple of games this season, imo, because we had both starting props off for long periods through the middle of the game and opposition teams took advantage of our inexperienced defensive line to pile on tries.
From memory, from round 3 Mary actually addressed this by giving Vaughan a 10 minute breather from 20 to 30 keeping Jammer on for 30-odd when Vaughan returns.
This has worked and shows mary can make changes when needed (even if belatedly) but it just seems like doesn't enjoy proving himself initially wrong by doing so.
Why he continues to keep a fresh man on the bench when a clearly injured one is hampering the defence, particularly in a tight game situation, when we could have also used the fresh players quality goal kicking skills, is still concerning.
If he cant or won't start Lomax in place of aitken based on his skills as a centre alone, then additionally the need for a quality goal kicker should be enough for Mary to prove himself wrong again and actually enjoy doing so this time...
