Still don't get the "escort" comments on Lafai.
It would be easier to take if they called it a block as Lafai got there first and stopped which he is entitled to do.
If you want an example of an escort, check out the 3 Manly players that impeded Ravalawa chasing a bomb at the 42.5 min mark. Of course no penalty and not noticed by the commentators.

Some of the reporters clearly hven't bothered to watch the whole game as their reports are making it sound like the Dragons got the benefit of other calls throughout the game.

Yes Manly :-6-0 penalties in the 2nd half.
Mcinnes runs from dummy half eagles reserve hooker not square ,no penalty.
Every kick is the same every team does it.
Media sensationalising it.
Manly had enough ball to win 2 games.
Refs got it wrong they said.
We shouldn't have put ourselves in that position with lafai missing kicks and catching the last kick off.

As I recall Host stuffed the last catch from the kickoff, Lomax wouldn't.

Love how the media have sensationalized the one play that the ref's ruled in our favour.

No reference to Manly receiving 6 second-half penalties in a row. Apparently, Manly was apparently perfect during that period and Saints continually infringed the rules.

Media is such a joke.
Yeah its annoying. My mates that didn't see the game saying "heard dragons were very lucky to win".
Very lucky my ass! We deserved that more than Manly did.
The score board flattered them because we missed our goal kicks.
Refs had a shocker of a game and penalty count was 10-6 against us.
Screw the media.

With all the ball Manly had they should have won but couldn't break us ....

Can someone please give me the defention of what an escort is. If you are running towards your goal line, you don't change direction, you stop without tripping or laying a hand on any one, what have you done wrong. When there is four guys going up for a bomb, who is escorting then. If the 1st guy goes up, misses the ball, his mate behind him catches it and scores, is this an escort ??????

We have seen it a million times. The ball gets booted down town, the winger or full back make a call, and then 1 of them go for the ball while his mate shields him and makes sure he is okay. Is this an "escort" even though the defenders are still 20 metres away.

Please enough is enough. Some of the greatest rugby league judges and some commentators are at logger heads over this. So how can you blame some poor bastard with a whistle in his mouth who has a split second to make a call.

Most disappointed with the great Bobby Fulton having a go at the decision. There was undoubtedly some degree of leniency shown , but all in all Manly had more then there fair share of dubious decisions going their way .

For pity bluudy sake - it wasn’t a grand final , but merely a competition match early in the season . Get over it ! !

Fox Sports (including News Limited) will never forgive St. George for refusing to join Super League.

Missed the game live due to a function.

Managed a media ban and just watched the replay.

What a gutsy effort!

Particularly late in the second half when the team fought through fatigue to hammer the eagles inside their own 10, set after set, on the back of a majestic kicking game from Hunt.

The line speed from Macca, Vaughan and Jammer was awe-inspiring.

Just dunno why Mary didn't bring Lomax on to replace Host who was clearly carrying a shoulder through the last 15 minutes. Could have been a costly mistake.

Very impressive effort across the park.

Hunt played all over cherry imo...

GO THE MIGHTIES!!!

The whole post is spot on and the bit hi-lited is too true.

If I remember correctly Host was lying on the ground clutching his injured shoulder / arm when DCE scored, in fact DCE nearly had to jump over him to get to the ball. A fit player would have been up and into marker - possibly stopping that try. Mary did the same when K.Sims was injured - unnecessary and unforgivable. It's not like he doesn't have an interchange available. It's just one of the small areas where Mary & Co get it wrong and it costs us. I don't think he's such a bad coach overall but these basic blunders and poor use of the bench are really holding us back.

True.

As a coach, ok there are better ones out there, no question, but whether they were real options was questionable.

What I have noted as this season has progressed (potentially because his future was being determined) was that Mary can develop and has made changes to his trademark inept bench use.

We lost the first couple of games this season, imo, because we had both starting props off for long periods through the middle of the game and opposition teams took advantage of our inexperienced defensive line to pile on tries.

From memory, from round 3 Mary actually addressed this by giving Vaughan a 10 minute breather from 20 to 30 keeping Jammer on for 30-odd when Vaughan returns.

This has worked and shows mary can make changes when needed (even if belatedly) but it just seems like doesn't enjoy proving himself initially wrong by doing so.

Why he continues to keep a fresh man on the bench when a clearly injured one is hampering the defence, particularly in a tight game situation, when we could have also used the fresh players quality goal kicking skills, is still concerning.

If he cant or won't start Lomax in place of aitken based on his skills as a centre alone, then additionally the need for a quality goal kicker should be enough for Mary to prove himself wrong again and actually enjoy doing so this time...

What's the bet we cop it this week with escorts in another media driven ref crackdown? Though if it happens with both sides, I won't be concerned
It all depends on which side the ref is keeping his good eye on.

We battled very hard in defence but were very clunky in attack close to the line. It seemed non of our players were looking to put the team mates through the line. It was all bash and barge until the hail Mary kick on the last tackle.

We will need to be much smarter than that in the ANZAC Day match on Thursday.

Surely we can use the power play plan, off-load to players in a good position, rotate the forwards on the bench more cleverly and still put the hail Mary bomb up on the last.

Slow down mate...don't complicate the plan...one out running for the first 4 tackles and then let the players decide on 5 & 6.

Just out of curiosity does anyone know who the Dally M judge was in our game.
Probably biased but I thought Hunt & McInnes were the two best on ground.
I'm amazed that Waddell was given a point.
