Round 8 v Eels

Bookies must think we cant possibly keep losing and are due for a win. No way we are favorites for any logical reason.

We are the worst team this season. We might have smashed Knights. But they have tried harder than us in the other 6 weeks and look more like an NRL team than we do. Likewise with Tigers under Cleary.

How the f**k are we favorites for this? Has literally no one been watching us for the past month?

Parra are as much as an enigma as we are. I really thought Parra would be killing it this year.

Who knows,by the end of the season, both sides might become TAB boilovers.

Parra's defence is soft in the middle which might cancel out our deficiencies. But then they're better than us out wide anyway.

I said it in another thread but is our forward pack really going that bad? We've been camped in the oppositions half a lot of the time, at least for the first half of games anyway. The problems seem to start thereafter.

The Sharks dropped a lot of ball on the weekend. Nothing much to do with our forward play. And that's the thing that sucks the most - the Sharks didn't even play that well. They were just smarter, more clinical, and harder when it counted. We were directionless, gutless, and brainless.

Our forward pack are missing a lot of easy tackles and we go from being camped on the opposition line to conceding a try way too often. Trent Merrin is defending like Cartwright was.

We manage to get up field alright, but it's really thanks to our forward pack. Isaah Yeo is the only one consistently doing his job, otherwise we get field position from bombs that are dropped, unforced opposition errors, penalties or our backs making good metres up the field. I think our forwards have been beaten most weeks.

I agree but a lot of the errors were forced through the forwards strong defence / aggressive defensive line. I thought We did the same to the storm the first half, theb fell to shit. The pack isn't at their best but I think their are bigger issues.

Our cohesion in attack seems a bigger problem to me.

In the opening exchanges we looked ok. RCG passed the ball twice before the line which was new, he and Tamou carried defenders but didn't get away any decent play the balls, and Merrin was comfortably better than them both. But even then we were still losing the battle for field position, they were beginning sets 20 to 40 out and us 10 to 20. And that was with Fifita and Prior frankly phoning it in, they were a shadow of what they have been this season. Then the dropped balls and penalties came.

Look at what Korbin Sims (of all people) is doing, Vaughn and the like. Just on the weekend there was a Tigers try on the back of a Woods hit up that left the tacklers on the ground and allowed the dummy half to exploit the line behind the ruck. Vaughn then Packer ran through the Cows up the middle to set a try up for Packer. That's where we need to be to be a chance in this competition and we're nowhere close.

How often has a middle forward of ours earned a penalty because the defenders get caught up in the ruck or have to hold down? How often do tacklers not manage to get to marker? How often is there not a set and waiting defensive line after one of our forwards hit it up? I think you'd have to go back to Kikau's debut for a good solid example of these things.

I think we will win this weekend, then combine that with a win over the Broncs and start to get a move on.

Our team is to good to play this bad all year.

I'm staying positive..... For now.... Just.....

It will be interesting and no doubt disappointing to see what reserves run out again this week.

Another tactic I can't get my head around for this year is not naming the extended reserves in lower grade.

No matter who is picked 4 players won't be playing this weekend at all.

None of them look fit enough they can continue to have limited or 0 minutes and be expected to improve.

I get the feeling the coach thinks by not naming a proper team we have some sort of advantage or even worse he has no idea what team to select. He is relying on tricks rather than hard work.

The try scored up the middle by Sauaso Sue last week was very weak. It gives us hope.
A bit of rare mongrel from our forwards would go a long way tomorrow. its a shame we didn't keep Matagi

Our forwards have been not where they were last year but they haven't been soft.

Our main problem is we can't penetrate the line, we rarely seem to score through sheer luck through any sort of sustained pressure as we let the opposition off the hook because we are f**king no chance of getting a repeat set through a goal line dropout.

We jump from the frying pan into the fire each week - pressure the opposition line for a set, looking absolutely f**king clueless in the process then let them march down field and score.

Villiame Kikau and James Fisher Harris dropped out of the 21 man squad.

Bryce Cartwright is listed to replace JFH... so as expected it looks like the exact same 17 aside from an injury for this week. Hiku, Browne and Leota will stay while Akauolo and CHN get dropped tomorrow.

I hate losing. But Hook doesnt deserve to coach a winning team. Hes a terrible coach and has no vision.
