Anyone got the low-down on whether the supposed cancellation of the Rozelle metro stop is a good or bad thing? Did Elias buy up the other properties expecting it to be built?

Hey westie, from what i have read the metro is not the be all and end all of the clubs plans BUT im sure without it the whole thing will need to be re assesed. particulary if the metro was actualy part of the overall building. It will also have a huge impact on the volume of pedestrian traffic thru the new facility.

The plans for the LC redevelopment have been around longing than the idea of the metro, so I'd suspect the impact of it going ahead or not is negligible. Should the metro not extend to Rozelle, the positive would be that the redevelopment should be concluded in a shorter period of time.

The Merto is not that big a deal.

The biggest part of the development in terms of success is, believe it or not, the covered pedestrian overpass of Victoria Rd. This opens the retail exposure to the Balmain side of Vic Road and also will help in making the club a major Bus hub for the area

The metro will link with Leichhardt, Strathfield and Parramatta to Westmead, the Western Metro....all those people will now zoom straight past Rozelle.

Strathfield/Leichhardt = easy links to the new little offshoot clubs at Flemo & Five Dock - no more.

Its a big deal....its a big city.

The DA application makes no mention what-so-ever of the Metro station, so any changes by the State Government won't affect the development aside from the obvious impact of NOT have a metro station next door.

Rozelle station or not, what's being built won't be the final route.

The NorthWest Metro (the extention from Rozelle up Victoria Road) was a few stages down the development plan, as is the West Metro and East Metro (or what ever it's called... the one that goes east)

Anyone that has ever been to other Alpha/Beta cities around the world would appreciate how amazing large metro networks are.

The Tokyo Metro has pretty much eliminated the need for the average Joe to own a car, and it works in tandem with the existing above ground network.

Over time, more and more routes will be added. I personally look forward to the day when a vast metro network extends across sydney, where you can easily get from Rozelle to Bondi, Ryde to the SCG or pretty much anywhere via a fast, underground network.
