Rugby 7s

The men's team is an embarrassment, there's not a bloke in the side who would be able to get a start in the Ron Massey Cup. Of particular note is the angry bald bloke who ran away from a French attacker so as not to have to tackle him, leading to a try, then yelled at all the other twats in the team to make himself look tough. He'd be made a fool of if he joined his local OzTag comp. What a waste, if there were one of two NRL players in the side - or even a handful of Holden Cup players, really - Australia would shit it in.

There is a pretty obvious lack of speed in the Aus team than most of the other teams. I can imagine someone like Kalyn Ponga would kill it in the 7's.

Even adding someone like Cameron Munster to the Australian team would completely change things. He'd be the best player in the tournament by a long shot and could probably carry the other nuffies to a gold medal. He'd only have to miss a week for the Storm, so why not send him over?

Bloody hell, I never knew Japan was so full of Polynesians! Or that Kenya is so full of blokes who wander around looking confused because they only started playing Union Sevens six weeks ago. f**king hell, what an embarrassment this whole tournament is.

Kenya won one of the 7's world series legs this year. No idea what is going on with them now. Looking as clueless as the Columbian women's team.

We didn't deserve to even be in the quarters... The USA showed more than our guys.

Good on the Fijians for putting us away,

Is Old Man Titjiens retiring now?

That was pretty disgraceful all around, first calling those muppets All Blacks, and then the lame performances they put in

Hope Fiji win TBH

The refereeing at this tournament has been laughable. Once again we didn't deserve to win with such an uninspiring team or gameplan though.

I feel for Titj to be honest...

He had made something out of bugger all resource wise for 30 years so we just expect it to happen.

Now with the sport in the Olympics other countries have put money into the sport which has made it really hard for Titj.

We can't expect him to win at Olympic level when he really only has the left overs from the 5 super squads.

Sure we had SBW... But he actually decided to commit himself to sevens,.. Which he did off his own back... If we are serious about winning gold... Shag needs to take a step back and encourage the likes of Ben Smith, Ardie Savea, Nehe Milner-Skudder etc... To take the year off from super rugby and all black rugby and join the sevens series...

Considering the Olympics is the year after the RWC, I think we're going to see a fair few more players opt to switch over to Sevens for the Olympic year. And if the NZRFU and ARU are smart, they'll encourage that because we won't win medals, with the attendant international attention that garners, otherwise.

Congrats to Fiji for winning their first ever medal at the Olympics. They won the gold in the men's Rugby Sevens.

Twitter takes a swipe at Hayne after Fijian success in Rio

Fiji provided the feel-good moment of the Olympics so far by clinching their first ever medal, winning the rugby 7s with a huge victory over Great Britain.

But many Aussie fans took the opportunity to take a swipe at Jarryd Hayne, who unsuccessfully attempted to make the Fijian team on the back of about seven seconds’ worth of 7s experience.

While the Fijians prepare to fly home to a massive reception, Hayne will be heading to Campbelltown Stadium for Gold Coast’s vital clash with Wests Tigers on Saturday.

Hayne has been tweeting his support to the Fijians throughout the tournament.

Fiji essentially beat England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Island.

Bloody good work!

Time to get the NRL 9s working for all countries.

It just begs the question why didn't Hayne try and get a place on the Aussie team? Why try get in to the best team in the world of a sport you've never played?
With Hayne in the side perhaps they could have been in with a shout of a medal.

A counter argument is he's actually not necessarily a very good coach - he won a lot when nobody much cared, and we simply relied on our young talent and some 7's "specialists" - translation, like the coach not really up to 15's. He wasn't a success as a provincial coach, was never going to coach at a higher level at 15's, so saw an opportunity... good luck to him, but aside from fitness I am not sure there's been much to marvel at tactically from what we've been up to... time for a change of coach was a few years back, perhaps...

And the fact that our best players don't play is telling...

Glad Fiji won - they've always led the way in 7's, and taken it seriously (of course they are pretty much mud at the real thing)
