I usually point that out to them in comment sections. If our world cup is so shit and so irrelevant than what are they doing even commenting. They know that if we stop holding ourselves back we can make a semi decent international scene pretty quickly
Don't bother getting in an argument with a union fan, they'll always resort to the usual rhetoric, the Rugby WC is the 2nd biggest tournament on earth, Rugby has 857m global fans, play rugby see the world, no one outside of NSW and QLD care about league, rugby is the fastest growing sport on earth....etc.

It's all a bunch of BS but they are so deluded they genuinely believe it.

Assuming RA make an offer to Cleary...or one of the games genuine stars, would fans have a problem if the NRL topped up thier salary to match Rugby's offer ??

For example, if Cleay/Walsh/Ponga (or whoever is on Rugby's 'hit list') is paid 1.2m by thier club and Rugby offer them 2m, the NRL could top up thier salary 800k to match RA offer.

But here is the thing. Even if RA were to throw $$$ at Cleary, does he want to leave? It felt like in the last 20 minutes, he was protecting or defending a dynasty.

Also the next tv deal commences in 2028. What does RA have to offer beyond the 2027 world cup?

Stan is walking away from union

if they can get a tv deal it’s back at fox on even less money

the nrl salary cap will be close to 20 million then so if anything their World Cup here could be a showcase for the nrl to plunder

This is a bit out of left field, but bear with me...

With the NRLs cap increasing year on year and with Rugby comps around the world pulling back thier caps within the next decade the NRL could become the 'NBA' of rugby.

If we can pay Union players more than Union we could potentially have a comp with all the best league/Union players in the world?

Well start raiding them but the best pathways are juniors and becoming established and not wasting so much time on stuff like rucks mauls and lineouts and scrums

Cleary strikes me as a pretty intelligent dude, so I don't think he'd go over for money considering ARU could only barely increase his salary. Whereas if he stays in the NRL he is pretty much guaranteed the Fittler/Johns/Cronk/Slater career path (a job at the Panthers for life, a cruisy media gig, and specialist coaching jobs).

Would you really want to give up a 20+ year, $1m+/year post-playing career for an extra few hundred thousand for a few years? The only way he goes to Union is if he wants the challenge. And if that's the case, no amount of money will make him stay.

I hope he stays in the NRL and both he and his Dad go for the greatest coach of all time/greatest player of all time combo. Win another premiership or 2 at the Panthers then go to either a new expansion team or a struggling club like the Titans and create a dynasty there.

We already do .

I remember that 2003 world cup, show casing all their "global talent".

Argentina came 4th, and their centres were two Ian Herring's. Very pedestrian.

I'd advise any rugby league player thinking of swapping codes to go to a local shopping mall and ask random strangers to name a member of their state Super Rugby team. And then ask them to name a member of the Wallabies. That's how quickly you'll be forgotten.
I’d also suggest they ask what is the nickname of the Australian Rugby Team?

Hahhahaa chooks tried to dump him on union

More like they couldn`t find the extra 300 grand that he was demanding to come over. They wanted him for 500k, it was said he wouldn`t go over for less than 800k, so much for the allure of the wallabies jumper and international travel.
Probably had enough of int. travel after him, Carrigan, Cleary et. al. backpacked around Europe after last year`s WC. Poor old rugby, foiled at every turn. F...ing fantastic.
