Blame league culture for loss: White
July 31, 2005 - 2:59PM

South African coach Jake White believes the infiltration of rugby league culture into the Wallaby ranks may be to partly blame for the decline in player behaviour standards in the Australian team.

White, who had little doubt events of the past two weeks had affected Australia's preparations for the Tri Nations Test, said the Springboks were "fortunate that we don't have a rugby league culture in our team".

Haha, South Africans criticising anyone's behaviour is hilarious. One of the nations with the worst documented cases of day to day racism in the world.

We'll take drunk and disorderly, you can continue to commit hate crimes.

What exactly is a Rugby League culture, and how is it any different to a Rugby Union culture.

So this moron is trying to convince us that if you play RU instead of RL, you will behave differently off the field.

And how many people in the South African team are black?

And what is the ratio of black people to white in South Africa?

:-k

As a South African-Australian, The Springboks are the only thing I've supported in RU since I abandoned the sport in 2000. For an individual who is the national coach of a Union that has done so much to exclude the majority of its nations population since its inception, for a coach a union that is part of an organisation (IRB) that is childish in its attempts to destroy RL anywhere it can, I'm absolutely shocked at these comments.

Mr White should also note that the last 2 teams to actually win the Union World cup are so heavily infiltrated by Rugby League and its culture that it's not funny.

I'm done with them, They can get f*cked...

I was watching the match last night and one of their coloured players Brenton Paulser scored the try to bring South Africa to within 2 points to level the scores. Only 2 players went over to congratulate him, one of those being coloured. I think there were 6 coloured players in the squad, however I think most were on the bench.

Not many coloured supporters in the crowd either, South African Rugby supporters are traditionally from the 'white only' Private schools and are largely very conservative in their beliefs.

I won't bother going into detail about their rather liberal use of steroids and the tendancy of their players to bite, scratch and gouge.

Mate, you are someone I feel sorry for.. I would hate to be so ashamed by a leading Australian sports coach to feel the way you do. You don't deserve it and in a way they don't deserve your support.

So why doesn't rugby league go over and promote the sport as everyone's rugby, especially to the black population.

Promote us as we are, the opposite to rugby union.

I think you'll find that of all the hostile places in the world for League to be played......RSA is the very worst.

The only way league could ever get going over there is if the NRL pushed really hard to get a League going.

Even then...its not so much the problems League would face as the problems the people who choose League could face if that ever happened.

how odd. if people in league do something bad, its because thats the "rugby league culture". if people in union do it, well they've obviously been affected by the "rugby league culture". ??? methinks its about time the sport takes responsibility for their own problems - i think the nrl has done very well in regards to the problems they've had and now league is having one of the closest and best supported seasons ever.

f*ck off rugby.

I remember a story (One I tell about ever 30 seconds) of a former RSA union player who decided to sign with an Australian League club during the SL war.

This player was told that if he made the move he and his family would find life very difficult.

The player rang the Bulldogs back and said sorry, but he would have to stay in RSA and play union.

I think the ONLY way League could ever really happen in RSA is if the NRL basically made a massive push over there. Get clubs like the Broncos, Bulldogs and Roosters playing games over there. Set up a semi professional competition.....set up direct pathways into the Australian games and play regular internationals in South Africa.

This would ALL have to be funded by the NRL and run by Australians that were sent over there.

Thats just to get the basics up and running.
