Rule changes that could make rugby league more attractive

Since the NRL has been loving changes the rules and I love the new 7 tackle rule when the ball goes dead and I think most other fans of the game have liked it as well.

What rules would you like to see the NRL bring in to make the game more attractive to the fans?

I personally for one would love to see that play they once had in the all stars game where after you score a try you get one play the ball from the 10 meter line to try score another try instead of the taking the kick for goal.

Its a bit like NFL where they can go for the extra play or just go for the drop punt,it would make the game more interesting if lets say the game was like 8 points with 3 mins to go and the team behind score for example.

I also believe the 10 mins for a professional foul preventing a try scoring opportunity should be punished more perhaps 10 mins in the bin for the player and a 7 tackle set following.

if you jump up for a ball in the air and come down with it then its play on regardless of incidental little touches.

I reckon pissing broncos2010 off the LU forums would make RL a lot more attractive to a lot of people.

If the ball suddenly appears on the ground during a tackle and the referees can't guarantee how it got there attacker picks it up and plays it . . . give them a third option

A nominated spectator from each team shall be seated inside the opposition try line and 20 metre line and are allowed to run on the field and perform a try saving tackle if required. At the referees discretion the spectator may also strip the ball in a one on one tackle and regain possession for his team. The referee shall then call time out and order the spectator back to their seat.

Unless the ref actually sees a strip, it's ruled a knock on. Call it the Burgess interpretation. Promotes ball security.

What is to stop people like BunniesMan trying to molest the players?

I like the SL play on rule after a mistake from the opposition. You basically get the full play to do something good. Lots of fun throwing it around, chiping it etc knowing if you make a mistake you will get the ball back anyway.

Most rule changes don't actually make the game much better. One exception is the removal of the corner flag from play.

I could live with that. Fans may bitch when a replay is shown, but anything to simplify the rules is fine by me.

Just to add to it though. I'd like them to simplify the one on one strip. There's nothing I hate more than seeing the ball fly forward off the attacker only to be picked up again and called play on because the defender stripped it. Not to mention the video ref "just check how that came out" calls.

For me in a one on one strip situation both players have their hands on the ball. It's a knock on against one, knock back against the other. There should be no play on for a team when the ball flies forward from where the attacker is.

With all new rules, there will always be resistance. Trialling them in 9s first would be a good idea.

Totally remove the place-kick conversion and replace it with a scrum; 1 tackle, fieldgoal worth 2 (to replace the standard shot at goal), a try is worth 4.
- the defence has an opportunity to prevent extra points,
- scrum becomes useful again,
- 7 points is no longer a safe lead 5 minutes out.

Id also like to see an incentive to run at the end of a set; maybe cross the opposition 20m line and get a repeat set (defending team are allowed to defend it like the try line)

have it played by female models in lingerie.
Just as long as there's a weight limit... And they have to be approved by a new independent commission of males before they can take the field.

I know how we can help with the wrestle too... Strawberry Jelly!!
