Come on Herb. I know its Sunday but no excuses for posting idiocy. It doesn't matter whether you asked or they blurted.

I think it does. If it was what they lead with It would seem more likely to be running interference for the board.

The $400k comment is intended solely to discredit Gould and deflect any responsibility for the decision from the board.

The 400k doesn’t make the board look good, it’s what they (allegedly) agreed to pay to have him play somewhere else.

it’s the $1.2m figure that really makes Gould look bad.

I'm not sure how you're so "sure that RCG was way overpaid, and that's on Gus." At the time of signing, RCG had come off the 2017 season where he played 5 games for Australia then started for NSW in 2018. Since he re-signed about 3 weeks later, these achievements would be factored into his contract.

The length combined with the amount. Yes he’d had some good form in 2017, and he’d played some rep matches, but it was never enough to justify a 5 year deal. Gus liked handing them out like candy, though. So here we are.

Remember as well Gus signed him to the 5 year deal after he had his broken jaw.

More concerning is that Hook was able to get more out of RCG than Ivan (like the rest of the squad), to the point where RCG reportedly told Spud Carroll that Ivan was off him. It's more likely Ivan considered RCG and the team weren't putting in and couldn't understand why last years intensity was not there after such an enjoyable low-key preseason.

All we know is that Ivan backed against himself getting RCG back to his prior form.

He had one decent year in 2017, the rest of his career has been decidedly average. It wasn’t even that great, he only ran for 130m in 2017. Some of the best props run for 150-160m.

Hook only got him playing good footy for one of the three years he was coach.

Here’s RCG’s form in the first ten weeks of 2018, this was before he broke his jaw.

89 meters per game! Down from the 130m the previous year.

Gus had to totally ignore this rubbish 10 weeks and decide to give RCG a massive 5 year deal on the basis of his 2017 form. And to top it off he gives him the big deal after his broken jaw.

Note RCG signed his deal in late June 201825139B28-18EB-41BE-B49A-D37A42BBDF4A.jpeg

Moylan has his flaws but he was by far our best attacker in the red zone when he was here, he wasn’t a complete package but his passing game was probably the best in the comp, he always knew which pass to throw and when to run it himself, we still struggled in attack but it was definitely better with Moylan here.

He had a good year then clocked off. The jaw was an easy out

So if we believe the "jounos" we will be paying near 1 MIL of our cap to other clubs next year (RCG, DWZ, Blake). Unlikely but if anywhere near true.....ouch.

If we believe the journos.
Koroisau would be at the Bulldogs next year and DWZ would be at the Tigers this season with us getting Packer as a a swap.

According to journos its for the next 5 years too.

But hey according to them we just shed $2.5m of talent aswell. Throw in Maloney and its nearly $3.5m

No chance it would happen. Defeats the purpose of releasing them
The club has to be releasing bullshit inflated figures to save face in getting rid of some of our best players

Moylan was on ~$750k ffs.
Cartwright was on less than him.

Yet we're supposed to believe Gus suddenly decides f**k it... let's pay a winger more than these guys and make RCG our highest paid player in history by a fair margin?

Despite Gus publicly declaring shit like this:

“I’d find it very, very hard to pay him that sort of money,” Gould told Channel 9’s 100% Footy.

“To get him out of Brisbane you have to pay ($700,000). I don’t think Brisbane should have to pay that to keep him.

“He’s a great young talent, but if you’re going be paying people that sort of money, they’ve got to be contributing to a 70 per cent win rate, they’ve got to be a pointscorer, a points creator.

Likewise he didnt holdback saying Hunt was not worth $1m a season. That wingers arent worth big money and so on. Whether his views are right or wrong is irrelevant to the fact that they suggest there is no way he would pay DWZ $800K a season or RCG $1.2m a season. There's no way he would sign players on 5 year deals backloaded with the hope the cap would go up by 50 percent.

Not to say he didnt overpay guys. He clearly did. But why would he backload 5 year deals? When the first years of the deal are already higher than players could get elsewhere. The longer deals are supposed to be sweeteners to get players to stay for less or accept our 5 year deal over someone elses 3 or 4 year deal. I just refuse to believe Gus was anywhere near as incompetent as the media are making out.

Our club said that or Moylan's manager? Often in these cases it is the manager trying to bump up the next deal
