I never understand this obsession with suggesting we play players away from there natural and best position.

As far as the number six position in our side it is surely up for grabs and may the best man win between Burton and Luai. (Haven’t considered Tyrone May given his situation is still up in the air.)

One gets the job in the NRL and the other plays in NSW Cup, seems pretty simple. Neither is a centre, fullback or bench utility.

Ultimately we should pick the best player in the 6. And the player who compliments our spine.

To me that is Luai. Easily the most dynamic player in our spine. I haven't seen enough of Burton to say he is better. His debut was a success because he stuck to a simple plan and Cleary had a blinder. When Cleary doesn't do then how does Burton pick up the slack?

Burton has great footwork and speed to go along with a big fend. He has a great kicking game also. He laid on a try in early his debut playing eyes up footy and spotting the fb out of position. An electric running game will be his best weapon but he has it all.

I certainly hope our coaching staff isn't this closed minded.

The rep teams are littered with players either not in their positions or players who play in other positions

Well then he isn't a first grader if thats the case. His game doesn't fit any other postion, he was very ineffective in the 14 role.

14 to me should be someone that can play forwards too. The way he runs across field and has a decent kicking game is a fullback

Australian & SOO sides who have numerous quality fullbacks who they tend to fit in as wingers/centres.

Suggesting we select the likes of Luai & Burton at fullback/centre is just ridiculous. We have three specialist fullbacks in Edwards/Staines/Laurie who have actually played in the position for the majority of there football days and while centre is not our strongest position depth wise picking Luai or Burton there would be a recipe for disaster and I can’t believe people even entertain the thought.

So Freddy should have sat in reggies rather than play centre? Yes I just compared Burton to Filter, very similar body type and skill sets.

The game in the 1990’s was a very different game. Bears absolutely no resemblance to the current NRL your comparison is frankly brain dead. Burton is a 5/8 who if he keeps on growing may eventually graduate into becoming a ball playing lock forward.

I think if were talking having a utility of our bench then at his best perhaps Tyrone May is the best option. He can covers a wide range of positions having largely played fullback/centre/halves/lock/hooker during his entire career. His future is still undecided I know but he is probably to closest thing we have to a genuine utility on his best form and if part of our set up.

Brain Dead is being locked into a set way of thinking and not using your whole squad to its potential.

That’s bullshit. If Jerome Luai is not good enough for the starting 5/8 position then sadly he has to play NSW Cup. He is not a centre and we have far better options at fullback so 5/8 or nothing for Jerome. In respect of Matt Burton has he ever played in the centres coming through the juniors? He has played one NRL game and all of a sudden you as super coach seem to think he is going to solve all our issues by picking him in the centres because he reminds you of Freddie Fittler. Good luck with that one super coach thankfully Ivan will not be relying on you as his trusted advisor in 2020.

For the record both Sione Katoa and Wade Egan were both hard done by in my opinion. If I were a super coach I would have stuck solid with either of the above, probably Egan, and bought a proper outside back so we wouldn’t have to be contemplating selecting either Luai or Burton there but that logic probably escapes you.

They also have several actual centres. Using that theory Tom Turbo should of not played Origin despite being in the top 5 in the comp

As a fan of Egan I can say he totally blew every opportunity he had in first grade and he'll fade off into obscurity at that awful club.
