It becomes even more obvious that’s the case when you hear what the Storm were offering the Eels at the final stages;
Flat out $750k transfer fee - rejected by Eels
or
Take Ryan Matterson at full freight ($470k I think they said), plus something like $200kTransfer fee - Eels accepted this, but Matterson refused to go
Now, Lomax is good, but he ain’t worth either of those offers above. Someone clearly has something to hide for the Storm to have made those offers. If you consider the second option, and say Zak was going to be paid even just $700k, with Mattersons contract included (and presuming they wouldn’t play him, because he’s shite), they’d have been paying over a million on the cap for Lomax, plus a $200k fee. Madness.
The Eels rejecting the $750k fee also shows this is all about principle, and that they know they’ve got either the Storm or the NRL (or maybe both), by the short and curly’s. There’s no way Melbourne/Lomax are settling for the deal they’ve done if not, they’d chance their arm in Court. They 100% did not want their laundry aired.
