Going overseas is not a reasonable expectation though. Things change. He could argue in this period he needs to be near family and friends, rather than trying his hand to further his career outside Australia. Whilst R360 was a thing, and the conditions were very favourable with how they outlined it, that you could still base yourself in your home country, length of competition (8 weeks plus finals) etc, that is not the same with what the alternate overseas options provide.
Why I said it's unlikely Parra will be successful, is because they are asking for a player in return. That is something Lomax cannot make happen, and is unreasonable. I'm sure eventually they will come to terms with a cash settlement, and that will be the end of it all.
Yes, I understand that, but that is not what Parramatta are seeking legally as far as I'm aware. Melbourne may be able to provide one, depending on the individual player's wishes also, but unless Parramatta agree to a proposal the Eels agree with, they've got bupkis rights to sign Lomax for 2026.
In that case, Lomax doesn't have a leg to stand on. Non-copmpete clauses are quite standard in contracts and that is what Parramatta are seeking to enforce, he cannot compete for a rival club in the NRL till 2029.
