Rumoured Targets 3

Just on cleaning out players, Fitz and Johns are two of many you would be looking at and both took up options for 2023, so presumably wasn't any interest out there for them.

That will be the main problem with cleaning out some not wanted or not needed, other clubs have to want/need for them to move on with minimum fuss. Unsigned players, Musgrove, Crosslands and Saulo are gone based on that as we need the room in top 30, players such as Clune and Clifford will unlikely be moved on unless miracle signing in halves as this is our weakest spot, centres and forwards then become our target to shift, players such as Hunt, Best, Tuala, Fitz and Johns

Yep. We are at the craps table with snake eyes. And no club will give up depth in the current market to make another club stronger, for a lesser player.

Too bad Ben Hunt is contracted till end of next year with the news he has told Dragons their offer is short.
I though about Hunt a few months ago but kind of brushed him off due to his age (32). But if he is a possibility, maybe even coming next year instead of ‘24, I’d be all in. He could still have a good 4 or 5 years.

I live in the Sutherland Shire and I got chatting to Ben Hunt at the post office last week (he was sending a signed Dragons jersey to someone) and I mentioned to him that Newcastle need a halfback, his response was "They're a basket case" so I wouldn't get our hopes up about getting him lol.

In fact, on the topic of Ben Hunt, I'd argue he's a better hooker than halfback. Surely one of the top 3-4 hookers in the game currently. His dummy half work at rep level over the last few years has been excellent.

I mean, he’s right, but it’s also not that far removed from his current circumstance either.

These are the 27 signed for next year by all accounts, and they're trying to get KPP early and Brooks/another half to make 29. Seem to always go into the season with 29 in case someone pops up before the deadline.

Adam Clune
Adam Elliott
Bailey Hodgson
Bevan French
Bradman Best
Brodie Jones
Chris Randall
Dane Gagai
Daniel Saifiti
David Klemmer
Dominic Young
Dylan Lucas
Enari Tuala
Hymel Hunt
Jack Hetherington
Jack Johns
Jacob Saifiti
Jake Clifford
Jayden Brailey
Kalyn Ponga
Krystian Mapapalangi
Kurt Mann
Lachlan Fitzgibbon
Leo Thompson
Mat Croker
Simi Sasagi
Tyson Frizell

Luke Brooks
Kai Pearce-Paul

I'd like to tell about a third of the squad their services are no longer required but unfortunately it doesn't work that way, someone else needs to be willing to pick up their deal. They've carried Musgrove for a few years now for example... And you need someone to replace them, the 2023 cupboard is looking emptier by the day.
Quite the collection of plodders.

If they are chasing KPP and Brooks then have to assume we are unlikely to get Hastings and Garrick which based on availability is very likely best

A lot can happen after November 1 and the transfer market usually becomes a bit of a free for all at that time. If we can ship a few guys off to other clubs or the ESL then that just opens up room to get a few more in. The club must be fairly confident of getting Brooks based on what we've been hearing over the last 6 months. I wouldn't rule Garrick out either given Manly's salary cap situation and the fact that they may want to shake things up a bit given how this year has gone. You never know who is going to be looking for a move after November 1 so whilst things look pretty bleak right now it can all change quickly.

We really do have a rogues gallery of ESL players:

Jones
Johns
Tuala
Hunt
Fitzgibbon

we need to move on at least 3 of them. All should be good swap candidates. Hell we could do some two for ones.

They need to want to move, another club needs to want them and what would be the point if we can’t sign better,
Only Johns hasn’t played much 1sts in past couple of seasons, Tuala has played lots
Only out would be can we pay out contracts to create space in our top 30

i'd assume most players will be more willing to move with a year left on their contract if they know there is no chance they will get a new contract with us but they can get a multi year deal somewhere else. Only problem is as people on here have said, someone needs to want them.

This is why i believe there will be some tough and unpopular decisions for the fans to comprehend, being made in the next couple of months about our squad. I won't count anything out is terms of players we try to move on. This would be something Parr would be working on right now to try fixing our squad up.
