Will be fascinating how coaches use the bench this year.
I think at the start of the season we’ll see teams running out with 1-17 per normal and the 18-19 being a specialist half and back who only get minutes on the field as a Plan C when there’s unexpected injuries.
Later in the year some coaches will get a bit more adventurous and we’ll see the bench used more like how it is in soccer- players are either brought into the match to create tries when behind, or shore up the defence when in front.
And players 1-7 might be 100% fit, but they’re no longer certainties to be on the field for 80 minutes and can be interchanged if needed.
Imagine those games last year where everything went wrong for Schiller or Marzhew, but we were forced to keep them on the field. Having a player like Hunt being able to come on as a straight swap and not needing to rearrange half the back line would be invaluable.
