What is the plan for Watson if he is re-signed, still the 14? If he's on decent coin we should be looking at him to play 80 at lock.

f**k me, none of that better be true. Unbelievable. Flat out unacceptable. How pathetic for Fitz to know he's in the Knights squad because of daddy. How humiliating. Doesn't have to train hard or play well, always got a job because of daddy. Sad.
Fitzy just doesn't possess any of the traits required of an edge backrower under the new rules. Edge forwards that only run that one crash line are becoming obsolete, last year even without the concussions Cordner was becoming a liability for the roosters, Shaun Lane was converted to a bench middle, Jackson now plays in the middle, Hess is now a prop, Tohu Harris is now a middle. The edge forwards who've really come into their own the past 18 months like Crichton, Kikau, Capewell, Olakaatu, Schuster, Papalii, etc are guys who can get the ball before the line and create something with footwork, ball playing, offload or tackle breaking ability, Fitzgibbon possesses none or those traits

Probably one of the most accurate posts I've ever read. The game has changed, but I don't think the Knights changed with it. We desperately need one of those types of edge forwards. Can we even assume the club is aware of this? Somehow we've ended up with exactly the type of forwards who are fast becoming outdated. Klemmer the metre eater grinding his way up the middle but slowing down the whole set. Frizzell probably nevers play Origin again. Fitz was always plod but is now even worse. Barnett has his moments but still isn't even a top 20 backrower in the league. The new breed of forward is out there but we don't have much other than the twins.

Side note: I wonder how players like Zeb Taia and peak Cory Paterson would go in 2021?

Our back row issues have been highlighted in this forum for a few years now. It is nothing new.

Is the club aware of it? Have a look at our recruitment and player development.

Definitely not.

Toohey's News

- Watson will meet with Clint Zammit this week in hopes of getting a deal done. Phil Gardner says the Knights won’t be budging on their offer and could pull it off the table if he waits too long. Reading between the lines it doesn’t seem like testing the market has gone as well as he would have hoped.

- Negotiations with Gagai were dead in the water a few weeks ago due to his asking price and the club only offering 2 years. His preference always being to come back to the Knights, he came back to the table with lower salary expectations and the club agreed to offer an extra year.

- Curtis Scott was indeed offered to the club and they were weighing it up before the Gagai singing. Won’t happen now.

- Negotiations with Brailey for a long-term extension begun this week and should be finalised in the near future.

I would be ok to pay overs a little bit for Watson tbh. He’s a way better player now than when we first signed him and he’s one of the few points of difference in our boring attacking style. In fact I shudder to imagine what our attack looks like without him.

Did we need another winger that badly?

Lol if the club lets Watson go now. Bloke has developed a decent pass (finally) and is one of very few players who can create something for us.

I don’t think we want to let go of Connor at all. I think we want to do the deal now. We’ve given him time to test the market - now it’s time to work out what he has, and either sign him or look elsewhere.

Absolutely, Young and To'a are both not wingers but have been played out of position there, Musgrove isn't much chop and Lee won't be re-signed. I think we need 2 SPECIALIST wingers

Yeah I currently count us having one first-grade quality winger at the club for next year. Gagai and Best our only two centres.

Toa could come good. Young is a long way away, needs to sharpen up.

I don’t think we’re keeping Tuala. I don’t want to see Mann at centre. Musgrove is squad filler.

When I look at our wing stocks and the outside backs we've had in the past few years, when was the last time we had an athletic freak in our squad?
