Peter O’Sullivan is very articulate. He has a clear vision of where he wants us to be. And more importantly he believes in AOB. That should be enough for us all to be at peace with. Was that comment about Leo being done over a shot at Zammit?

Clint Zammit and briefly Adam Doyle were the recruitment managers before O’Sullivan took over. Parr was overseeing things during that period as well so have to think he was involved to some extent or at least aware.

That might be the most transparent piece of news I've seen from the club in a long time. Good to know what's going on.

Looks like we are chasing Brown hard. I'd rather one Brown than a Cogger and a Hastings anyway. Sharpe and Brown might be magic in the halves.

It’s concerning that every time we think we get professionals in to manage the salary cap and roster, we end up with dud contracts and mismanagement.

I wonder what we’ll be saying about POS’s time here in 5 or so years?

I think we need to give POS the benefit of the doubt. He wasn’t responsible for any of the current mess and he’s the best, he deserves a chance to fix it.

There will no doubt be a mistake here and there. There is at every club, but Zammit was clearly not up to it the more and more is coming out. I’m so so on Parr with the whole thing. I don’t think he’s blameless, but at the same time clearly most of the mess was already happening before he arrived.

POS’s comments were clearly levelled at Zammit and maybe O’Doyle as he says none of them are still at the club.

Wasn’t Zammit the one responsible for letting KP walk from the Cowboys in favour of Lachlan Coote and putting Jason Taumalolo on that 10 year contract? Honestly we deserve everything we’ve ended up with by signing him.

I'm actually a lot more confident in our squads depth after watching the 2 trials. We look to have good cover across the backs and forwards with young guys who look at least able to step up and fill in if not outright pushing for spots. Halves being the only area of concern.

I still think we miss the 8 this year but I think if we can blood 1 or 2 of the young guys we are set up well for 2026 and beyond.

The old Roosters trick. When they sign it's for 500k, when they're off contract they were on 800k. I can't fathom Phoenix being on 800k. Brails maybe but probably even not.
I'm thinking he was creatively referring to their entire contracts. Brailey 2025, Crossland 2025/2026. Still sounds like too much, lol.

I’m not blaming POS, just pointing out that every time we get someone new in, the same problems keep coming up. Tinkler and Bennett, Wests, Parr, Zammit…

As fans, we keep thinking, “ok these guys are professionals and know what they’re doing.” But then in hindsight we find out that they’re just as incompetent as the previous guy and the roster is a total mess.

I’m pretty sure those kinds of decisions aren’t made by the recruitment managers but rather collectively with the head coach and general manager. There was a lot of speculation the reason Zammit departed the cowboys was because he had fallen out with the coach at the time Paul Green (RIP).
For what it’s worth Zammit was the one who discovered the likes of KP, Taumalolo, Hammer, Kikau, Brandon Smith, etc.
I think the issue with Zammit’s tenure is the expectations of his role changed dramatically. When he signed on the agreement was that he would remain in Nth Qld and pretty much funnel all the talent from Qld and other areas where we haven’t really had any networks established remembering Zammit’s biggest strength is his eye for young talent. In hindsight what they should’ve done was kept Zammit where he was but have him concentrate entire on actual recruitment as opposed to list management.

Ah ok that’s fair enough then. I was under the impression it was mainly the role of the recruitment manager to advise on who to keep, who to move on, sign, and the sort of contract as POS was talking about that being his role. I suspect each club would be a bit different in terms of how much sway they have.

In the instance of a junior like Ponga the General Manager would have the final say after consultation with Recruitment and Coach. - supply/demand

In the instance of large 10 year deals the final say would be CEO, no doubt after a board consultation. - large outlay/investment

KNIGHTS SIGN COWBOYS GUN

Newcastle have taken the first step to replacing Leo Thompson by signing North Queensland young gun Will Sullivan.

Sullivan is a graduate of the Cowboys’ Young Guns program and played a handful of games last year with their Queensland Cup side.

He is on a development deal at the Cowboys this season and it is understood he has agreed terms to join the Knights next year as they look to strengthen their pack following the loss of Thompson.

The Knights are yet to agree deals with a handful of their current forwards. Adam Elliott, Jack Hetherington, Kai Pearce-Paul and Jayden Brailey could all be on the move at the end of the year.

Anyone know if he is any good?
