F**k it. It feels good to make the big signings that everyone else usually gets. Idc how much it cost. Brailey and Hastings for Brown sounds pretty good to me.
No one else wanted him Browns management sent a email to all other 16clubs knights the only team that chased him besides this made up “annoymus club”

Eels told him to take the money when they found out knights were offering 350k more per year

He gets so much shit for his management of the halves but he’s never had anyone better than old washed Mitchell Pearce. Besides that he’s gotten about what can be expected out of players like Mann, Gamble, Cogger, and Clifford was playing career best footy to that point until whatever off field stuff derailed that. Hell even Anthony Milford played pretty okay for us! Some may dispute that last one I guess but I don’t think we were losing because of him.

And now he’s being handed someone with honest to god elite attributes on the verge of his prime. Exactly what he’s clearly wanted in a half too, big strong ball runner who defends hard, plays really square, etc.

I’ll be shocked if he doesn’t play career best footy for us. Exactly how good that footy is, well we’ll see. But the potential is exciting.
What's amazing is the influence media hacks have on public opinion.

I think AOB is far better than what the media give him credit for - He's had a roster in the 8 with a reserve grade quality spine most of the time (arguably one of the worst in the comp) - it's an outstanding achievement.

Yes, he's made some rookie decisions, but over all he's proven himself to be a very good coach.

With the reports of some exciting juniors finally starting to come on we're about to enter a really really exciting chapter.

I was just watching a clip from NRL 360 - they were saying that Brown does have a rachet clause in his contract - but that it can only go up to 1.4m a year and caps out there. If true and if the cap continues to increase as new teams come into the comp - that could be some very handy business. All things considered with the player market forecast for the next 5+ years... I can see why the club felt like a deal like this could be risked. The potential upside is massive.
U got him cheap?

For whatever it's worth, I think you have a good, to great, player on your hands.

He's on insistent, but he's only 24 years old.

His long kicking game is average, but his short kicking game is pretty decent.

He is a strong defender (Sunday notwithstanding), and can run the ball.

Inconsistency, and his desire to party in his free time, are the two biggest flags you need to address.

But as long as you give him a halves partner that can run the team, he will do well.

All these opinions being thrown around when the only thing that will prove whether Brown is a good signing or not is time.

He'll be a 7 at the Knights, he might not be one right now but he can be and will be our 7, the main man, steering the team. Marque money demands he step up and take his team.

It's not an unrealistic hope for Sharpe to develop into a Jahrome Hughes type halfback. Hughes was also a fullback from memory and they both have a similar skillset with Sharpe possessing probably more raw talent.

The pieces are there. A lot will come down to AOB's coaching now.

What people need to understand is that while he may or may not be wearing the 7 jersey here, he’s NOT going to be a traditional organising halfback, at least not initially. There’s no reason he can’t become more of a halfback in the future (he’s only 24 and a lot of current NRL halfbacks made the transition later), but it’s completely delusional to expect him to suddenly come in and be a traditional steering halfback just because we’ve offered him big money when he’s not that type of player naturally.

Thankfully the likes of POS know this and there will be a plan in place - whether that’s developing Sharpe or Brown into that role over time, but people need patience. The good thing is that if our first choice halfback for this season was Gamble who’s a natural 6, AOB obviously doesn’t feel that a completely traditional halfback is essential for our system. And tbh I think Brown would flourish in that type of environment rather than being forced into a traditional 7 role like the Eels did last year when Moses when down.
