succession plans we would win the spoon every year for. Two talented English kids who we have done nothing with. Pryce basically lost 18 months of his career here.

Don’t give me the ESL is different BS. look at the kids Ricky brings out. Nicholson is an absolute gun. Smithies old school hardened. And we should have had proper crack at Morgan Knowles. He is hard As nails.

Ricky Stuart may be top three development coaches in the game now. He has proven the long game works. But also has the record at Raiders to back their faith in him.

Same sort of ladder finishes people want AOB fired for.

Grass is always greener on the other side I guess.

Let's wait and see whether a single young spine player pans out to be elite under him before we call him a great development coach.

Smithies is a spud.

F**** off with your Captain Hindsight bullshit.

Maybe if you had bothered to join this forum back then, you would have seen plenty of people questioning Pearce’s ability to control a game. Was Reynolds ever on the radar, maybe not. Could we have outbid Brisbane, maybe not. But he did become available and we’d already shot our load on a guy who was absolutely outclassed during Blake Green’s 3 game stint, and who was apparently begging for us to sign Kieren Foran prior to that, because he couldn’t do what was needed.

Did we have a succession plan? Probably not. That shows how pathetic we have been in that regard. It should have been worked on day 1 of Pearce’s arrival.
I'm specifically questioning the "if we didn't keep Pearce we could have gotten Reynolds" rationale though.

Saying you didn't like Pearce and wanted him to not be re-signed is fine, whatever. We won more games with him in the team than any other player since Joey pretty much, but you're entitled to your opinion. But the "keeping Pearce was a sign of inept admin" take because it robbed us of our ability to go after Reynolds, THAT'S where hindsight bias comes in.

I've never been dissed for not joining an Internet forum though, that's new lol

Anyway back in the present and reality - what's the feeling here on Dom?

For me we covered his defensive issues with Gags decently and he immediately fixes our metres problem. Having the 1-2 of Young and Marz would be nice.

Yeah, well no one said “if we didn’t keep Pearce we could have got Reynolds”.

More like, “Pearce is not up to it, let’s see if there are options out there which provide better value for money”. Reynolds presented very shortly thereafter. Would have needed a big swing, but we had already made our one and only play. (Basically the equivalent of the short ball to Fitzgibbon).

Those of us who were here at the time did discuss it with various opinions. No hindsight required.

Might make an impact on the field but doubt he'll make any impact on our ladder position. If he wants to come back for the cheap, no loss for us.

He has them on side and they play for him. Can’t say the same for our boy. He also recruits far better than us. Their juniors are all way more grade ready than ours.

Halves from the ESL are absolutely garbage, there’s a reason average halves from here look like world beaters over there, Ricky gets forwards 90% of the time, they are always likely to pan out better.

Does he though? He's currently sitting on less yardage per game than Schiller

I loved the bloke when he was here but he's regressed pretty badly. I don't think he magically goes back to 2023 Dom in the 2025 Knights

Dom comes across as a vibes guy to me. Someone who would need to feel comfortable and positive about his surroundings and environment to perform at his best, and perhaps the Roosters setup just isn’t quite what he needs.

Agreed though, the current version of Dom isn’t what we need. But if we were signing him then we’re backing AOB to get the best out of him, which he did last time Dom was here.

Rather stick with Sharpe for a year and develop him than get someone like Reynolds who is only likely ok for 1 year if he can stay on the field, age is catching up.
Is it? Honestly he's playing better than ever from what I've seen. The stuff he's always been good at, he's only gotten better at. He's never had the athletic ability to impose himself on a game like the absolute top tier 7's anyway so the athletic decline isn't as big an issue for him. But I reckon there's no player in the comp the game moves slower for right now.

He's always been a bit of a weird player in that he's kind of looked busted since before he hit 30... yet 2024 was the first season where he'd played fewer than 20 games since 2016. And he's 34 and reckons he's got two seasons left, which would mean he retires at about the same age DCE is now.

Have NFI how realistic or economic it is (honestly think a lot depends on what we signed Sharpe for), but apparently the Broncos only have $300K in the cap for him (and have young prospects like Mozer and Black they'll be eager to lock down). And there's a case to be made that Sharpe would learn more training with Reyno & playing reserve grade than he would in first grade without the kind of guidance and insight a player like Adam can offer. Similarly, Brown, if he's going to learn to be a halfback, could stand to learn a lot from him (Moses is a better player than Reyno but I've never heard great wraps about him as a mentor; have mostly just heard that Mitch is a bit of a prick).

A lot of "it depends" in there but I certainly wouldn't be mad if we came up with $450Kish for him + a wink-wink nudge-nudge post-retirement job offer to be our new halves coach. One of the things Newy has going for it is that it's a good spot to raise kids (that's why a lot of our signings have been old blokes with families). I think there are potential long term benefits which can be factored in here.

(Disregard the above if Kalyn's rib cartilage issue clears up and he looks good again in the coming weeks as the main on-ball player lol)
