Whatever the outcome of this situation, we'll learn exactly what level of management we actually have at the club.
Well, we are a franchisee. So we are not privy to the powers of the NRL under the head franchise agreement.

There does seem to be an undercurrent of shit clubs who think this notion of Lomax --> Storm is a farce. Let's see if a) the shit clubs have any sway and b) PVL gives a rats.

As much as you think that it will test our club, I think it will test PVL, because most people think his shit doesn't stink.

I can see them using it for influence.
Maybe for a second if we show weakness but it would be a monumentally bad move for them to even mention it otherwise. We’re far removed from a club that hangs off the teat of NRL, we’ve got an incredibly large supporter base that will overwhelmingly disappear should that risk our position in comp and it would be bad publicity for them and risk their relationship with other stakeholders.
All other clubs (and Scum in their shrivelled hearts probably secretly agree) have told NRL they should back us and the RLPA have only stated that other players shouldn’t be used as bargaining chips, not that they think Lomax is in right. Even Gillies initial statement seemed to suggest that we have the legal backing.
NRL can mediate, negotiate and hope for resolution all they like, but they can’t throw their weight around too much, especially because clubs are already arguing with th about other things.

This.
If the NRL want him in the game so badly then they can try to get him to another club that’s willing to offer up a fair trade for him.

If he says “No I only want to go to Melbourne” then f**k him.
To be fair, they can’t really dictate where he can go either. But if their reasoning for mediation is to determine fair value then absolutely that should be opened up to other clubs and as I’ve said many times opened up to the value that Scum will be paying him.

Do you mean professional vs vindictive?
What about anything that has occurred do you think if we were to outright deny a release of Lomax for remaining years of his contract time would indicate they are vindictive? From my dealings with club people, for however people think of them, they are very pragmatic (some may say too pragmatic) in my opinion.

As I said - Melbourne WILL NOT release a player, let alone a potential rep level player.

NRL WANT Lomax playing.

Eels get screwed over.

the end.

the club don’t want it in courts, the NRL don’t want it in courts.

What's stopping Roosters telling Moses to do similar. Ask for a conditional release not to play for another NRL club as going to take a break or try boxing. Then pay a 200k transfer by Politis and after 6 weeks he becomes a Rooster?

How do we know Storm havent contacted Lomax's manager 4mths ago and RUGBY360 was a smoke screen? And he just wanted out.

Let's see if Paps and Nelson return to the Storm with 8 rnds to go for 250k each under the cap for a finals charge.

Something fishy going on down there. I dont buy it.

I mentioned similar above. Can see unscrupulous clubs and managers doing exactly what you said to get a player to a designated club.

Well one thing is for sure

The Storm v Eels Rivalry is about to have a new chapter and i can go back to hating the pricks completely again

I have gone a bit soft on them in recent years maybe because most of the shit merkins have left. Not that i was cheering for them.

But they havent been as hateable as previous storm sides.

But i suppose with Lomax and the smell of it the true full blown hatred can return for good with the slime bags down there on the same level as the Dogs and Manly.

And when we finally beat the pricks in a semi final it can finally go to another level again and earn some respect in the rivalry.
Nah I’ve absolutely loathed the kents since 2009 and having a couple of less hate-able players changes nothing for me. I’m at Celtic v Rangers type level of hatred :D

I think it would be vindictive if we just denied the release rather than taking whatever benefit we could get. I assume the club's present refusal is just part of the negotiation. It might be that cash (a transfer fee) is all we can get. The question is how much. It might not help us replace Lomax in the short term, but cash certainly isn't worthless. The right amount could be very beneficial. Our pathways program won't be cheap. There's evidence the Panthers have stopped spending so much on theirs, for example. Having the best pathways forever would have to be unsustainable.

I don’t think rejecting cash would be vindictive to Lomax though. I could take it as argument for being vindictive to Scum, but it’s more about receiving fair value. Doing nothing costs us nothing than opportunity, but accepting something doesn’t fully reduce the opportunity cost either. Right now it seems Scum are only ones interested, if they turn around and say we’ll pay $20.00 as transfer fee, would you accept that given no other offers?

For an NRL club $20 might as well be $0. It seems $200k isn't enough but there must be some figure that moves the needle, or else why did we take home games to Darwin?
