So much for Origin being a selection series for the Kangaroos squad , now you can have the weird position of not being good enough for Origin, but being in the National side.
That's been the case ever since Bob Fulton was the Kangaroos coach. I kind of understand we've got to cater for the increasing Pacific demographic that makes up a huge percentage of RL these days.

I hate it... I think it cheapens both the concept of Origin as well as Internationals

I wasn't really a fan of them doing it with the Tier 2 nations but I understood why they were doing it and its been successful.

I think it goes too far with NZ and England though. I don't want to see Casey McLean playing for NSW and then NZ, it just doesn't sit right with me.

What about To'o and Crighton playing for Samoa? It happens already. The Tier 1 and 2 nations thing is stupid. Everyone is developed in Australia anyway.

Is it any more egregious than Inglis being a QLD legend?

Correct... I already said I wasn't a fan of it but I understood why they allow it for Tier 2 nations and growing the game in those regions.

I don't think that people raised in Australia playing for NZ or England helps grow the game at all though... those countries should be able to name teams with players they have developed.

If a kid born and raised in Sydney wants to honour his parents/grandparents and play for England or NZ that it totally fine. However I think once you do that you are turning your back on Australian Grassroots Rugby League which developed you then I think you forfeit the chance of representing your State and earning money from that.

Anyways its just my opinion and its happening so I will have to get my head around it.

Fair point.

Origin is just three exhibition games. Who gives a f#ck who plays in them?

Well I do for one.... It's what the concept was built on and why it has been so enduring and successful.

Its been the envy of every other sport in this country, so much so the AFL tried to drag up the concept on the weekend after not caring about if for 30 years.

Their version though was a glorified pre-season game. Ours is played in the peak of the season and is built on passion and hatred, personally I don't like seeing that get diluted.

It could be made to work.
For example if McLean wants to play origin but play for another country he should essentially plead for eligibility and make a TV program out of it. Make them do an affidavit or state dec.
A panel of NSW origin greats can determine the outcome the main thing being we never want someone playing for NSW who supported Qld as a kid or who didn't give a shit about origin - many of the NZers would have supported Qld.
So make them apply and have a "court" hearing and a right to appeal etc.
If you grew up in NZ and supported Qld in origin and then got recruited from NZ to the Roosters at age 15 you shouldn't be eligible for NSW or Qld.

Only if Judge Judy oversees the hearing and Dr Phil provide psychological evidence.
