We went better in 2023 than we did last year. The reason the rebuild is taking so long is because we didn’t have the pathways players coming through until now. Merkins who are 22 this year were only teenagers in 2023.
the real reason the rebuild is taking so long is because Ryles was only hired for the 2025 season and he had to get rid of all the deadwood. Our pathways were a shambles under Arthur. Ryles is getting things into order

No the pathways were great before Ryles got here. Where do you think all these great pathways players came from? Ryles didn't bring them. They were all at the club before 2025.

These guys arrived after Ryles was signed:

de Belin (35)
Walker (32)
Williams (31)
Kelly (30)
Kautoga (24)
Samrani (24)
Iongi (23)
Pezet (23)
Papalii (22)
Da Silva (21)

Some good youth and also some not-youth. But the kids carving up in SG Ball (and soon, reserve grade) were all already at the club. We still have six merkins from our 2023 SG Ball premiership side. Tuivaiti and Guymer (and Pryke) played in our 2020 Harold Matts team ffs.

Actually Koina and Bamblett both arrived after 2024, but I doubt Ryles has the time to go and sign kids from the Mal Meninga and Harold Matthews cups. We have full time recruitment and pathways staff for that. The system that scouts and signs those kids was already in place since at least 2022.

And yet BA could only develop his kids and their friends and even then he couldn’t bring them on the way Ryles seems to be bringing on these other juniors

whilst that's partially correct it was Ryles who identified them in our system and signed them long term, I have doubts that the previous HC would of done the same.

"Jason's proven track record in winning environments, combined with his passion for developing young talent perfectly aligns with the direction we are taking our Club. We have a strong NRL roster and a group of exciting young players coming through our pathways programs. We believe Jason is the ideal person to build a strong connection within the playing group, across the Club and with the passionate Parramatta Eels fanbase."

I think BA didn't suit the club vision of a development future, most likely a big reason he got the punt.

He developed a bunch of youngsters that took us to a grand final. Penisini was the only Rouse Hill player, so you’re wrong again.

BA had done it before, but as a senior coach he likely didn’t have the patience to go through another rebuild. Just find some TPAs and get back in the game ffs. Not our club. Hayne, Radradra, Lomax. Why are these merkins all so keen to leave us in their prime?

I can't say from a club perspective but watching a JR coached side even with our minimum recruitment, I am reasonably excited about the future. BA was living 10 years in the past.

Some vaild points. Having good kids is one thing but nuturing them properly is another.
Arthur admitted he never knew where to play Talagi. Having a PO in his contract was the dumbest thing ever.

No point in having good kids if you allow your best to get poached. Ryles has re-signed the kids who are standing out right now

DeGois and Shepard have been responsible for junior rep scouting and recruitment for about 4 years and their work is now providing some stars, local and imports. The completion of the COE is an important factor, as being able to showcase the facilities to managers and parents is also a draw card.

While there are issues in NRL recruitment at close to elite level, the work done lower and supported by the football club is now bringing benefits, Keeping the junior stars and adding to them at senior level is now the necessity.

The real frustration in a sense was the work done by Brian Smith which was the initial platform and gave the club a succession of some pretty decent players was ignored by a succession of coaches following him, now it’s been rebuilt which is key.

I am still questioning (in a big way) if our "pathways" are actually any better than they were 5-10 years ago. We seem to be getting ahead of ourselves as to the development of several players.

It’s been rebuilt because Ryles has a close history with Brian Smith who was way ahead of his time.

Stick to changing rules which no one appreciates, there has been an uptick in junior pathways which appear obvious.
