Understand Keppie's manager asked for a full time NRL contract as an upgrade for 2018 , was told that he will get one when his current contract expires ( end of 2018). Immediately shopped to other clubs by his management , the 2 usual suspects said he would be on NRL contract with them now etc etc.

That's the way they get other clubs prospects to become unsettled, that is how we lost Josh Curran last year, somewhat amazing they all fit under the sombrero :grinning:

f**ken deadshit loosers hey??
Like Baz said, these merkins want to have NRL careers, and they should want the best deal they can get (which might include playing with their mates). Even if he wants to sign with Parra for 2019+ he will still want the best deal from us, and knowing what rival clubs are offering will help him decide his value.

It is well after November, and every player off contract at the end of next year will be negotiating his future for 2019 and beyond. Keppie is no different.

Still my point stands only the likes of Melbourne, Broncos and Roosters can continually stick pile young talent with star studded rosters.

Yeah shit go but clubs and players don't have any loyalty theae days. If the club thinks his good enough give him the minimum this year and make him sign a 2-3 year extention on lower end money.
That way the risk is there but if he explodes you get extra value etc

30 Maybe??

Actually paying huge money for your best ten or so players means you need to fill the rest of your top 30 with absolute nuffies. Curran and Keppie might've been junior stars but there's no guarantee they will even become first graders.

Also, the Roosters have 35 players listed on their profiles page (including ten merkins who have never played first grade), so they have obviously included their development players there as well. Curran might not be top 30. They have 25 players who've played first grade but five of those haven't played more than three games in the NRL.

Meanwhile our 28 squad members have all played NRL apart from Marata Niukore. Gennings (5 games) and Davis (9 games) haven't played much first grade but of the rest the least experienced is French (29 games). So 25 of our players have played at least a full season in first grade. The Roosters only have 16 of these. So they have 14 players in their top 30 with less than a season of first grade under their belt. These nuffies help pay for their stars. The Roosters' depth is poor, and your weakest player is at least as influential in any given game as your best one. We continually saw that in the finals, including for the Chooks.

So what would you say is a better approach to winning premierships? ... a top heavy roster and running the risk of a couple of injuries bringing your season undone ... OR ... a deep roster without real star power?

Im expecting you to backup your answer with some solid stats
