So what would you say is a better approach to winning premierships? ... a top heavy roster and running the risk of a couple of injuries bringing your season undone ... OR ... a deep roster without real star power?
Im expecting you to backup your answer with some solid stats
I think with 20+ legit first graders you’ll make the finals pretty handily. With only a dozen you're f**ked if injuries hit - look at the Chooks last year.So what would you say is a better approach to winning premierships? ... a top heavy roster and running the risk of a couple of injuries bringing your season undone ... To be fair, they were both good enough to get picked in Origin.

I'm about to take my family out for chitlins and pig's feet, but while I'm gone, if any merkin can be bothered, make a list of all the nuffies who've won grand finals in the past ten years.
Obviously the definition of nuffy will vary, especially because they look better in strong teams. Keep in mind that Kirisome Auva'a and Slade Griffin are NRL premiership winners.
The Toodster! OuchImo (I'm using the definition of "nuffy" as someone who was a very ordinary and/or average player, regardless of ant Origin or Test caps accrued):
Steve Turner
Anthony Quinn
Brett Finch
Brett White
Michael Robertson
Jason King
Mark Bryant
Jarrod Saffy
Ben Hornby
Vic Mauro
Shane Rodney
Bryan Norrie
Todd Lowrie
Jaiman Lowe
David Tyrell
Jason Clark
Kyle Turner
Kyle Feldt
Rory Kostjasyn
Chad Townsend
Matt Prior
Jason Bukuya
Sam Tagatese
Curtis Scott
Slade Griffin
Tim Glasby
Dale Finucane
These players are not bad players imo - just very ordinary.

I've bolded anyone who's not a middle forward in that list because I think it's easier to get away with a few ordinary ones in your 17.Imo (I'm using the definition of "nuffy" as someone who was a very ordinary and/or average player, regardless of ant Origin or Test caps accrued):

As seen, many of the non-middles were wingers, and all of those bar Feldt were prior to 2013. I don't think the game is kind to sub par wingers these days. It has become a very important position. Personally I rate Kyle Feldt anyway. I was hoping we would get him.
Otherwise it's Finch, Hornby, Townsend, Scott and Griffin (who probably plays most of his minutes at 'lock' anyway). Also I rate Finch and Hornby as footballers even if they weren't the best playmakers. Townsend too I guess. Curtis Scott was still eligible for the NYC this year.
