Take off the Eels fan hat for a moment and look at it objectively. Compare us to the Tigers, who had their board sacked and replaced in 2014. They've struggled and even this season, four years later, were forced to pay big overs for mediocre players despite everything looking up for them. 500k plus for Russell Packer, who is basically performing at a lower level than Daniel Alvaro, is insane IMO. The money they paid for Josh Reynolds is mental, and they gave Matulino (a reject coaches reject) big money too.
As a player, would you want to go to a club with a history of instability and drama if you had another choice? As a business owner, would you want to be throwing TPAs at a club with our history right now?
Like it or not, it is a huge consideration for our football side. Footy is a business these days, and we've been bad business for ages now.
