Potentially improve our bench? Potential is not what we require. We need a definite improvement. A terrible tackler (Hipgrave), a 1 NRL game hooker (Lussick), an undersized forward who has done nothing at the Warriors (Papalli’i) and maybe an even worse tackler than Hipgrave with an attitude problem (Cartwright). I don’t see how we have improved our bench.

Do you rate Hughes,Hollis and Kafusi? I rate Kafusi. I haven't seen the other two but if any good all 3 will be pushing for NRL bench spots in 2022. And if there is no pathway they will leave and look elsewhere. If we sign big money guys we won't have money to keep them.
So unless you know what juniors are coming through then your a fool to ridicule the signings. Quality established players want long term deals and good money. I reckon BA rates 2 or 3 young props but feels they still may need a year to develop so went this way.

2022? Let’s focus on trying to win a semi final in 2021.

And potentially loose 3 great juniors? The reality is you have no idea how talented these kids are but would cry if they left and become great players at other clubs.
I'm sure we could sign better players then we have but we wouldn't have the cap space to accomdate another N.Brown or RCG quality player.

He has won multiple origins and finals games. Actusay won 2 finals games this season alone.
I deal in facts. You deal in wish wash
Did he win them on his own???

6 origin games, 0 line breaks,0 line break assists,0 tries and 0 try assists. He's a f**king big game dud. But but but but but he scored a try in a GF once the game was well and truly over.......

Happy enough with these signings. Still hoping for another big unit off the bench.

reckon big units (that aren’t liabilities are in defence) are fairly expensive. However we have 2 already in the squad, we just need to give them time, Kaufusi (188 Cm / 114 kg )/Hughes (193cm / 111kg and only 19).

Kaufusi could really be ready to own that big unit bench spot next year, has be developing nicely. Had some good moments this year.

While Hughes is a rookie and we shouldn’t expect anything, BA did pick him in the 21 this year so is probably developing ok to.

I wouldn’t give a shit if we lost those juniors in 2022, particularly if we went close to a premiership next year. I want 17 players who can win a premiership. I don’t care if they are juniors or not. We aren’t going close to a premiership with our current top 17.

Happy enough mate, just thinking that Alvaro is meant to be on his way out (possibly). I’d be over the moon with just one more front rower to give us energy off the bench. If BA etc believes that belongs to Kaufusi and Hughes, I can live with that too.

Why are some expecting top 13 player signings ?

our top 13 is basically already set and signed (maybe the odd change eg is Lane middle or edge now and additionally subjected to the Jennings outcome).

additionally we basically already have Marata as a lock for a bench spot and potentially Kafusi...

So basically all these signings are pushing for either the 2 bench spots or playing NSW cup/depth.,All clubs have a few cheapies on the bench.

We were never making big signings this year. Plus I reckon we have a few signings / squad players (and still some more coming) which could add something from the bench. There is going to be some good competition in the squad along with some new faces to freshen the squad up a bit.
For a team with two centres already on top 17 contracts, but a shadow over the availability of one of them, Opacic and Oldfield are as good as we could get for backups without paying top 17 money.

I think people are expecting a better bench. Our bench was dog shit this year and we haven’t really signed anyone of note that improves it. Papalii is just average and Hipgrave is one of the worst forward defenders in the comp. On top of that Jennings is going to be gone so our top 13 is weaker too.
With Papali'i's age and number of games he could be about to have a break out season. He's played nearly three full seasons and only turned 22 about a month ago.

Yeah, i suppose they'll have to do with Tino and David Faftia. Poor buggers.
Also Proctor. Their edge forward dollars would nearly all be tied up in two players. They'd only have minimum salary left for their backups. They'll be stuck with someone like Beau Fermor as a backup.

Yep, we were told our side was not good enough to compete with the top sides. Now we sign some bottom of the barrel dross the top 17 is suddenly good enough again???

When the coach is found out once again when it really matters the side won't be good enough again lol.
If the team is better next year we're relying on improvement from Drown and Mahoney, and a return to form from Moses.

Luckily the Storm will be weaker, so when we play them in the finals next year we're a chance.

Don't forget Kaufusi only turned 21 in August. He's won 13 from 23 games. By that age Junior Paulo had only won 11/27.

I’ll preface by saying “I hope not”, but feel it may be the type of experienced signing we look to for 1 year with Jenko gone before making a play for staggs/lomax etc for 2022

SHOOSH

Which NRL club is deep in talks with 32-year-old ex-Melbourne premiership-winning centre Will Chambers, who is now playing rugby union in Japan?
