if nrl cancels his registration the tigers have cash in hand but still have to go find another player

what if they organise a player swap with another club then they have a replacement ready to go and the other club is left holding the bag when he gets busted
They didn't want a player swap, they wanted his salary off the books so they can frontload extensions to players they want to keep. Now they can.

I've got no idea but if you bet on yourself to lose and throw the game could it be deemed as insider trading?

insider trading is more to do with shares and leaking secret company information

according to nrl rules players aren't allowed to bet on games at all so if they bet to win or lose it's a moot point

This is another reason that I am shocked that Foran's contract with the Warriors has been so quickly registered.

Read out of that whatever you want.

I think you will find that's because horse racing is legislated in each state and has legal rules in place.

The NRL (and proabably every other sport) just makes up their own rules.

Part 4ACA of the Crimes Act 1900 (NSW) criminalises the corrupting of a betting outcome of an event. ‘Corrupt conduct’ is when:
  1. Firstly, the conduct is likely to affect the outcome of any type of betting on any event (that is lawful to bet on in any State, Territory or the Commonwealth), and
  2. Secondly, the conduct does not meet the standard of integrity that a reasonable person would expect of those in the position that affect this outcome.

I think it is now illegal.

Simply placing a bet on an event in a competition that you play in is not necessarily illegal, but certainly betting on game you are involved in will 'increase the odds' that that is the case.

If a player sticks $5 on a correct score bet in a game he has nothing to do with, the NRL may have a problem with it, but in the absence of other evidence, the cops won't.

Betting on an NRL match by an NRL player and deliberately affecting the result of the match are two different things.

Knowone has said that Simona influenced a match he was playing in.

Find me the piece of legislation that says that NRL players cant bet on NRL matches
I dont think it is legislation i.e. law, but I am certain it is in players contracts that they can not bet on NRL.

You would have to be ignorant to think otherwise.
