Sharks have a very good pack. Better than most I'd say. But Williams played his best ever season just this year, at our club. He's a leader for sure. He came straight into our leadership group with Paulo and Hopgood. This is something Ryles has complete control over and he would know who the leaders are.
Ryan Matterson came straight into our leadership group as well ffs!!

this squad isn’t Bennetts doing so don’t pretend to think that he knows what he’s doing because when even he knows that up against it…

although credit to Bennett for landing blokes like Smith and Fifita on the cheap, they could of been handy for us…
Bennett chose to go there. He's not known for landing in places that need a rebuild.

I don’t think we necessarily need a ‘leader’ bro. Honestly if there’s not much between our best and worst forward in the 17 we could just be a real terrier underrated pack that rips in every week. We don’t have to be reliant on one big dog.

Hopgood and Williams are the older heads who both are quite intelligent and are there to steer you he young bulls around.

Riley Smith also has leadership group written all over him.

*PS I should have prefaced this by stating it’s the one day of the year I can’t have a punt so my brain is all over the shop. I’m like an ADHD kid without his meds.
It’s an interesting point you make. I do not see that in Hopgood (leader) and he is only in what, his 3rd season of NRL? In fact, he seems quite nonchalant to me but to be fair I have no insight to the inner sanctum, and not all leaders have to use words to lead.

Re Williams, Ryles threw him straight into the leadership group and I really rate Ryles leadership skills so he must have really seen something in Williams.

yup. JR wants to set a standard here and define the culture. So it becomes part of our DNA. I think that's why he brought in JDB and Pezet. The kids will see how it's done by professionals and pick it up as part of their on standards.

I think a forward leader is someone who knows when something is needed and stands up when no one else is standing up and why i mentioned RCG.

Parramatta are actively moving to strengthen their forward pack as recruitment planning intensifies, with several established NRL forwards emerging as potential targets.

The Eels are understood to be monitoring a group of experienced and versatile forwards, led by Cronulla Sharks enforcer Sifa Talakai. Talakai’s ability to play both in the middle and on an edge, coupled with his aggression and ball-running power, makes him an attractive option as Parramatta look to add size and impact to their pack.

Also on the club’s radar is South Sydney Rabbitohs forward Elias Leafa, a mobile middle forward known for his high work rate and defensive reliability. His experience and consistency could provide valuable depth and stability to the Eels’ rotation.

Melbourne Storm premiership-winning prop Christian Welch is another name linked to Parramatta’s recruitment plans. Welch’s leadership, finals experience and toughness through the middle would offer the Eels a seasoned presence in the engine room, particularly as the club seeks to balance youth with experience.

Rounding out the list is Sharks back-rower Teague Wilton, who has developed into a reliable edge forward in recent seasons. Wilton’s line-running and defensive discipline make him a potential long-term option as Parramatta assess ways to improve their edge combinations.

While no deals are understood to be imminent, the Eels’ interest in multiple forwards underlines a clear focus on improving their pack as they look to build a more competitive and resilient squad for the upcoming NRL campaigns.
