Here's my uneducated guess, he never wanted to leave Souths but at 29 decided he'd take the most money and longest contract, that said it's probably time for a change in who runs our recruiting department

St. George Illawarra Dragons secure Keaon Koloamatangi on long-term deal

Christmas has come a day late for Dragons fans, with the team securing the services of star prop Keaon Koloamatangi for the next half-decade.

St George Illawarra have landed a huge recruitment scalp by securing Australian star Keaon Koloamatangi to a long term near $5 million deal.
It is understood that Koloamatangi has told the Dragons he will join the club from 2027 on a five year deal. The contract is now in the cooling off period.

It is a clear circuit breaker for the Dragons who were in the market for a marquee player.
Koloamatangi’s current club South Sydney wanted to secure him as did Parramatta.
The Dragons though look set to land the prized recruit after gazumping the Eels and Rabbitohs with a monster five year deal
MORE TO COME

Given the states of both rosters, I'm disappointed we lost out, but not at the fact that we were not willing to go over that huge Dragons offer.

Good luck to them.

It's also insanity to me that he has signed for 2027, when the 2026 has yet to even begin, but, whatever...

Then you realise the 2 competing recruitment teams were DA vs MON ? And one of them lost out. Imagine losing to either one
Well DA has got 2 NRL sides to a GF, won a super league title, World Club Challenge and 3 x Challenge cups in a row plus a highly respected at the Chooks as a recuritment officer.

I think he deserves a bit of respect in the game.

Its a shame Spags and Osborne showed him nothing back in 2010.

No point looking back what we haven't got right in the long past.
We need to get recruitment correct in the future.
However, I'm not sure how that will change.
Don’t worry we have the Ponisisiiiii of the west running the show and his phones running off the hook.

I mean we just signed a highly sort after young gun like Brian Kelly’s it’s not panic stations yet.

Our recuitment has been average for a while.

An easy cop out is the BA coaching.

But I said it at the time

Every sporting organistation when they move on the coach move on the HOF or GM so to speak.

Even if BA and MON hated each other.

If your going for a full reset you have to do it across the board.

I would have offered Paul Bunn the melbourne recruitment bloke who was off contract an Alan Bond deal for recruitment managers and got a new HOF.

MON has been there since 2019 probably has a pass mark at the 2022 GF

But there have been numerous shockers since then that deserve as much scruitny as BA's coaching does and it goes hand in hand.

Gutho may have f**ked us over for ages but our negoations with him were a symptom of how we offered deals to a lot of players including our own under MON.

Lowball the shit out of them at start and then find a middle a ground.

But is that really good business get the players and managers offside at the Kick off basically.

How about find the right price from the get go that there not even looking at the market.

We’ve lost the NZ five-eighth and an Australian/NSW Origin winger and the recruitment team’s response is… nothing. Zero replacements, zero plan—just the embarrassing idea of Brian Kelly. Let that sink in.

There’s no depth out wide whatsoever, and these geniuses expect a midget to eventually partner Moses in his prime and somehow end a 40-year drought. This isn’t roster management, it’s professional negligence.
