Read somewhere Widdop wants to return, be just what we need. Good 6 or 7, can run a team and very good kicker, both in general play and goal kicking. Okay no spring chicken, but I think you could squeeze a few years out of him. We have plenty of swap options to sweeten the deal
Wonder why he wants to come back? Would be very handy for us.

Even if MG is right...what does he think we have been trying to do for the past 6 years? Not sign players? It's like "oh wait a second, we didn't realise we should be trying to sign players...I thought we were supposed to not sign players and just deerrrpppp"

Nobody wants to come to Tigers and until we start making the 8 and lock Madge up long term it will continue
I don’t mind that..At least he’s not being condescending instead being helpful..

That’s true Fordy, but I am still recovering from the belting I got for throwing his name around.

I get around LU, ours is a “discerning” forum lol.
Belt back ..I think it was only 1 or 2 that didnt like Blake Green ..(I thought he was staying at the warriors) ....He must be homesick re immediate release. Hard to replace

Imagine spending his last summer in Oz down the Gong with a young family, then off to the UK based in Warrington sitting between Manchester & Liverpool.
I luv the UK & have spent much time there & was especially lucky to experience 2 fabulous summers there.Unfortunately the Brit winters are prolonged & u appreciate how almost utopian OZ is when uve been there in winter as often as I’ve been.Nevertheless London is a heck of a lot better to live in than the bleak north. No offence to the many salt of the earth northerners.Residing in Gong v Warrington is no contest !

'Committed heart and soul': Maguire reassures Tigers players after false exit rumours
By Sam Phillips
August 5, 2020 — 5.00pm

Before the Tigers started training on Wednesday, Michael Maguire called his players in and addressed speculation he was looking for the exit door.

"The first thing he said was ‘I want to shut down those rumours’ and his actual words were, ‘my heart and soul is committed to winning this club a competition’," Benji Marshall said.

"And you can see how genuine he was with that. The boys were appreciative of that - that he came out and [was] honest about it. We shut that down straight away. It’s pretty much finished."

Marshall, who will play his 250th game for the Tigers against the Knights on Saturday, believed every word of Maguire's address following false reports linking him to the Cowboys coaching role.

"You only have to be here every day to see how much he pours his heart and soul into the club," Marshall said.

"He kicked the chair 50m at half-time the other week. It means a lot to him. And you don’t do that unless it means something to you."

Marshall isn't the only milestone man this weekend. One-club veteran Chris Lawrence will line up for his 250th NRL start.

Lawrence has seen his fair share of coaches come and go during his 15 years at Concord. He also believed Maguire when he said he was going nowhere.

"He literally just walked in and said 'I’m not sure if you’ve heard about the coverage but I’m here. I’m committed and I’m here to do what we need to do,' " Lawrence said. "I hadn’t really heard that. It was the first time I’d heard it. So he put it to bed straight away so we could get on with the week.

"At the end of the day, you can only take people on face value and he has shown his passion for the club and passion to try and achieve a goal that we all want to get to.

"He goes above and beyond behind the scenes trying to drive this club. And we’re making strides in that direction. For him to be able to do that - there is desire there to get this club where he knows it can get to. And where we all want to get to."

Maguire is quietly filthy with the links to the Cowboys. The Cowboys are equally dirty with insinuations they are trying to poach a contracted coach.

The club has started pulling together a shortlist of candidates to replace Paul Green.

Sources have told the Herald interim Warriors coach Todd Payten - who knocked back the top job across the ditch - is high on that shortlist.

Payten has always had head coach aspirations and admitted on Wednesday those ambitions made the decision to knock back the Warriors' top job difficult.

Payten put family first, given his wife may not be able to travel back and forth between Australia and New Zealand to visit her ill father.

"[Head-coaching aspirations] was part of the reason why it was hard. But the reason why it was easy is because it was based on my family," Payten said.

When asked about the Cowboys role, Payten gave little away.

"I have no comment. It was clearly stated at the start [that Payten wouldn't comment]. It was reported I’ve spoken to them and that's as far as it's gone. I guess that is a comment," he said.

This is interesting. I reckon AD is the type of player we need. The guy is tough and puts in. He is great under the high ball and makes some busts.

He does have a tonne of flaws in his game and Mbye looked better offensively than AD when he was playing there. I reckon that there is a spot though for AD in our team. I just hope he isn't overpaid.
The only spot for him in the club is the bloke who cleans the shitters after the game. Useless as tits on a bull.

We desperately need a goal kicker. Last week it was 4 tries each & we lost by 6, which was goal kicks.

A couple of those misses were absolute howlers, especially after extra effort was made to score away from the edges. Cycling through three different kickers in as many conversion attempts is a good "lack of confidence" indicator.

Good to hear Madge is staying. He's a man of integrity, that's part of the reason for his success.

It's too early to write off AD yet.

I don't see us ever being a competitive team until we have a decent, permanent, goalkicker. Not only has it cost us games, but there has to be a psychological effect on the players during the game. Looking up and seeing 8 instead of 12 must feel discouraging
