Hmm never been a huge Joe O fan. Very different player to Aloiai, more of a solid prop. However he’s played 105 NRL games, 2 origins, only 25 and Brisbane will be paying a decent amount of his wage.

One thing I do like about ANY new signing is that they are coming here knowing Madge’s reputation, so aren’t afraid of hard work. Look at what it did to a guy like Luciano this year. Proof is right there for those who put in.

Interesting that Josh and Joe are the same age. I thought Joe was older because of his accomplishments. With Brisbane paying a chunk of his wages for the next two years, he'll be better value than paying $600k a season for Aloiai

Curtis Sironen...who knows. The guy hasn’t got near his potential. With his skill set and physique he should be the first backrower picked for NSW by now.

At 27 and having played NRL for 9 years it’s unlikely he’ll reach that. Injuries have played their part, he’s only played 125 games which averages about 13 games a year. TBF his 2019 was by far his best in which he played 22 games.

A specialist right edge forward which is what we’re after but he still doesn’t get me excited. Is it an improvement on Garner? Maybe, slightly, see what happens.

Once upon a time Tigers were the worst club for injuries in the history of NRL. It cost Sheens his job in 2012, and Potter in 2014. I honestly think Potter could have gotten us into Top 4 if we weren't ass ravaged with all those injuries to the point we had back rowers playing on the wing.

That seems to have completely changed, by most club's standards we are doing pretty well with managing injuries and keeping our players on the field. If we could do the same for Sironen then I have no doubt he could be a quality player. He would immediately be our most experienced 2nd rower and apart from Luciano he would be our best - in other words he would walk into the starting 13.

I think it would be amazing for morale seeing Sironen come back to Tigers and kill it. There is so much bitterness floating around with ex-Tigers players...there is no way it can be helping our recruitment efforts. Seeing Sironen in a Tigers jersey and genuinely saying how much the club has changed and how happy he is will be a massive leap forward for our club.

My only concern signing guys like Roberts and Joe O is we are once again signing players who are coming off average year with the hope they can re discover their old form at Tiger Town. From experience not many players reverse the slide, especially at a club in yet another rebuilding phase.

I like the way we are signing plenty of young quality kids for our junior ranks, but every club is doing it and very few convert, although Penrith showed you can have massive success going down this path.

I guess we will be stronger next year, but top eight is still going to be a struggle

LL, HG seemed to do OK, Robert’s isn’t that much of a risk but surley high reward if it works, bit hard to say about Joe O, he’s on 25, the broncs were an absolute basket case last year under Seibold. I would be keen to see a JA for CS happen and DL be released from Penrith?
I think we have the makings of a good team.

just a side note, Jimmy mentioned our Indigenous pathways initiative was impressive, I hope he is a good mate of JAC, could be handy attraction as he has said he was interested in this sort of thing. If we still want him:smiley:

We have not had much success in kick starting careers in the past. Harry and Lucy always were on the way up. Anyway fingers crossed all our signings turn out to be diamonds

Talk of JA being fined on Monday if he doesn’t turn up to training, then sacked if he doesn’t turn up Tuesday. Isn’t this what he wants? Why not just fine him every week until he starts mowing the grass?

Yes, seems a bit strange after all that was said, I would of thought that they fine him everyday he is required until he comes, as he shouldn’t be allowed to go Manly so easily.

Last year they justified Matterson’s release by saying it gave them cap space to sign AD and Lucy. This year with Garlic Sauce they will probably say it freed up cap and a roster space to sign maybe Joe O. Personally, I think you have to put your foot down and say enough is enough and refuse any release and get a message out there that we are not walk overs.

Although it is not that simple in reality, you can’t afford to get offside with player management groups because it could come back to bite you

I’m liking the look of Joe O ..I just wish I could find some playing footage of him and that I had watched the Broncos more last year to check him out ..there was some footage of him on you tube with his wife’s breast cancer and he strikes me as a lovely bloke with rock solid support around him...He's been through hell with that and now he’s got every reason to be a lot more mature with his kid as well and a supportive environment at WT ...I get the impression when you get on the outer with Seibold it’s a cold place of no return...also I remember seeing Aloiai getting bounced around when trying to run at the big boys..I don’t think that’s going to happen with Joey O ...Hes big

This not picking a back on the bench is the biggest look how smart I am after the event ever. Very few teams carry a back on the bench these days. You are far more likely to have a need for another forward than a fullback. If Freddy picks paps and Cook gets hurt do we bag him for not picking a hooker on the bench.
If you are going to pick backs on the bench at least pick a Chris Lawrence style players that can cover in your pack too.
But all these people who are saying pick Paps, where were you before game 1 and 2 ???

You don’t necessarily need a back but you do need a backrower capable of filling in at centre at the very least. We had no one. Capewell was a prime example of this for QLD, a backrower capable of playing in the centres made Gutherson look ordinary in the first game

The backrower who can play at centre ala Lawrence is spot on. But all the armcahir experts who say Paps should have been picked on the bench are the same cretins who would have been back on the bench had we lost due to being bashed up middle
