In the tried and true fashion of the old Knights Social forum, I'm putting my future in the hands of relative strangers.

Or, being more generous and accurate, my extended FFB family.

----

You see, I am a man of supreme indecisiveness. I'm Charlie Brown with a mean ginger beard; so I need your help deciding what my future holds.

I'm on contract here in China until next April. No plans to change that, especially now my brother and his missus live twenty minutes cab ride away.

But I do have a bunch of options for what comes next, so figured I'd get your thoughts.

Option #1 - Stay here

Renew my current 20 hour a week contract. Drink a lot on the weekends. Enjoy eight weeks of paid vacation a year in a job I like. City is a bit 'meh' socially.

Option #2 - Teach someplace else in China

Try my luck in Shanghai, Yunnan province, Sichuan province, or even Hainan with its tropical radness. Run the risk of getting a real job or being in a place with even less of a social pulse.

Option #3 - Backpack Europe. Move back to Australia for 6+ months.

Due in London for a friend's wedding. Travel around Europe for a few months and then go back to Oz for two more weddings + Christmas. Find some kind of mind-numbing call center job in Sydney while I'm home.

Option #4 - Backpack Europe. Find a teaching job in Turkey or the Middle East.

As above, except I don't come home and instead take a job in the Middle East (more money, less booze) or Turkey (less money, more booze). The latter has the perk of having a well established mate nearby and being able to travel. More flexible contract allows me to go home for my mate's wedding.

Option #5 - Backpack Europe. Find a job someplace else in Asia, probably Japan.

Asia suits me, mostly because it's cheap and we're paid more than average. Japan is a place I've always been interested in going, but the work hours + cost of living are less conducive to debauched partying.

Option #6 - Move to Thailand and live off my website/savings

I've got other blogging friends who live off their blog income/savings and basically just write, party, drink, and explore Thailand and SE Asia. The least financially viable, although I could always teach there if need be.

Option #7 - Other

I don't know why this is even an option on polls. If there were better ideas, I'd probably have had them already.

Definitely go for the mind numbing call centre job. Why I should I be the only one to suffer?

Which awful company do you work for?

I was pretty lucky to work for BigPond (subcontracted through Salmat), so the work was shit but the workplace was a lot of fun.

iiNet were even better. Free internet usage without blockages, free lunch every Friday, free massages, free parties with booze once a month, and an overall fun place to work. I actually wouldn't hate ending up back there.

As long as you come back to party with me and Dutchy on occasion, I dont care :p

Of course. How does next August sound? I'll be back to play best man for MrCharisma wedding

Thailand is your friend. Get a small teaching job so you can save up for travel.

This is my inclination. That part of the world is amazing, and I do like my life and my women to be easy.

If only I could backpack Europe and make a profit off my blog. Alas, $300-$1000 a month won't go far in Europe. In South East Asia though...

Out of curiosity, how much do you think it would cost you to backpack across Europe for several months? It's something I really want to do at some point.

It is a great part of the world. The locals are fantastic, and there are expats everywhere. It is the best of both worlds.

I haven't got a great idea of it, to be honest. I had a friend quote me $10,000 when he went there for the 2010 World Cup - but I imagine that was inflated for the tournament.

If you're avoiding the more expensive/touristy places, it's quite affordable from my research. But the likes of Italy, Germany, England, France, and the Netherlands aren't cheap if you want to do the 'must do' stuff.

My sentinments exactly. Brilliant beaches, lots of expats, friendly locals, cute girls, amazing food, and it's all cheap as chips.

I see. I have an interest in ancient history, so parts of Italy are a 'must do' for me. How long was he over there, do you know? Anything around $10,000 sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

I don't know how much he traveled beyond Germany. I'll put it to my FB fans/Twitter followers and see what comes back. They're usually a pretty travel savvy lot.

That Monk guy didn't come out last time I was in Sydney. Nor did his hot sisters.

Come home.

You should have to suffer it like the rest of us ;-)

Ha! A ringing endorsement.

South America?

I'd love to, but it's almost as hard to make happen as my dream of living in the US. Not a lot of places quite as safe + affordable as Thailand, and working there pays next to nothing.

Go hook up with mackdadday, that crazy sunuvvabitch. He sounds like he's got it sorted out with his booze and hookers lifestyle.

Srsly, just me but I'd experience as much as possible.
