Not much news seems to come out of there. But CSKA Moscow player Partizan Belgrade yesterday and won 38-32.

It's pretty pie in the sky stuff, but I think Russia's best hope would be getting one of those "big name" soccer clubs to fund a team in League 1.

CSKA, Spartak and Lokomotiv (not sure if they're involved anymore) are all big names in Russia. I imagine the relationship at the moment just involves letting the League teams use facilities and the name, happy to be proven wrong though.

This feels like an annual thread. Very little communication or connection to the wider sport out of Russia

Is a shame as they have been involved in the game since around 1990/1991 and could promise alot with help.
I recall a team Vereya Bears who seem to have disappeared???

Then we have the thread every 4 years about what can be done after they get tanked in the WCQ's.

They'll never get into the WC again without outside help and playing regularly at a higher standard. The likes of Malta and Canada will overtake them easily.

Exactly, they need to look outside their little box to improve. A well funded team entering League 1 would be their best hope. Finding the funds is another matter.

What teams would without outside help....

None. Which is exactly my point. To keep up with the countries with strong links to Australia and England, they need to form relationships with more RL-developed countries. No one ever improves playing amongst themselves.

They seem to be doing pretty well, considering the isolation.

I don't think some people quite realise how far Russia really is from most places and how difficult it is to go there (takes 3 months to get a visa just to go there etc.). But yes I do agree, ideally if they could set up some strong links in UK or Australia, it would definitely help their cause.

In fairness to them, CSKA Moscow do run a pretty active youtube channel, where they film and upload all their matches. Have a look and support them by subscribing to the channel!

I was there before christmas and whilst the visa was a pain it certainly wasn’t anything like 3 months.
There must be easier options for sport as they do play in uefa competitions which only have a couple of weeks notice.

Yeah perhaps it depends on the passport you hold. What I'm saying it's not as easy (or as quick, or as cheap) as travelling within the Eurozone.

They have their golden chance now, along with Serbia, Spain, Malta etc. Those teams are unlikely to ever get an easier chance at World Cup Qualification.

Hopefully whoever makes it can get a big push in that country.
