Sorry, Mango, the RWC was a dismal failure for ch7, no matter how you twist it. One night's success does not make up for 6 weeks of embarrassingly low ratings.

According to the London Times, the major international sponsors (Coke, etc) are extremely unhappy about how the RWC has rated worldwide.

yeh I mean you wont get a figure like that for another 16 or 20 years when Australia might host the cup again.

Even Then they would have to make the final also.

If it was a NZ england final it would of only been viewed by 1.5 million at most.

They have been a massive flop.

An excerpt from the article Seven’s Rugby delivers the goods

"Rugby ratings up until then have been slightly disappointing for the Network, with it’s national standing as the second highest rating network dropping during October and November."

Yep, every week until the last one, the WC couldn't make the top slot for the week (or the night, come to that), and it rarely made the top 5 shows per week -- most weeks it couldn't even crack the top 10.

The Australia vs Scotland quarter final only came 5th in that week -- it was beaten by Kath & Kim on the ABC. Kath & Kim!

Seven were so lucky that Australia made the final, otherwise they would have been in serious trouble. As it is, the final still isn't quite enough to make up for 5 weeks of their worst ratings in history, but it let them put a nice gloss on it, hoping no one will remember what came before it.

how did the league tests rate?

I'd say pretty well considering it was shown live at 5:00am Sunday mornings, which are outside of ratings periods. There's plenty of feedback in the papers etc on the games, so that suggests that it was being watched by quite a few people. I know I watched it. Most people in this forum watched it also.

I dont know about this year, but last year the Roos v Lions test outrated the damn Bloodyslow Cup. Shows there is a damn lot of potentional and interest submerged out there.

That should be union world cup final and semi-final is a huge success. The rest was highly farcical.

Those wonderful shows channel Seven tried to put on around the the crap games didn't last long? Rugby Shithouse? Even the Cream rated terribly.

Of the 6 and a half weeks 5 were an absolute sham for Seven.

Just read the papers and listen to the radio the union cup is already forgotton and the next one in 4 years is in France and will be televised at ungodly hours of the morning.

Suck shite Seven!

show us proof holc...

Can't give the exact figures, but I do recall that was true. Both the NZ and GB tests earlier in the year (neither of which were very good games) had ratings which were far higher than anyone expected. I believe they beat every game of the WC except the semis, final, and possibly the opening match.

It's just a shame less people got to see the recent Ashes series, which was a sensational contest. How did the more recent NZ/Aus Test rate? That was a corker, too.

I can say, "Well I remember 5 years ago the match between the Wallabies and Springboks at Ballymoore rated higher than the RL Grand Final of the same year.

You won't believe me because I don't have proof. Find a website that has the figures.

oh you dickhead!!!!
it is common f**king knowledge, we have been through it, i think at rleague or maybe here if you go to the first few pages.

The tests beat the bledisloe pretty easily aswell.

Even when the KIWI vs AUS test came up against AUS vs ROM RWC match the RL won in the areas where they competed.

The info we want would be on the rleague forums if they were up.

From rleague.com - For this year referring to the Sydney audience.

Even if this convinces only some of the 800,000 viewers who watched Friday night's game to attend matches, games will be sold out.

I can't find a mention of the 2002 ratings. However I'm sure the 2002 Test vs GB outrated the bledisloe in Sydney. I am not so sure about the 2003 mid year Test though.
