Can't wait to read the next round of excuses for this incompetent, pathetic coach.

The thing that should be obvious to most us fans is that there is so many areas of the game that are coachable and we are severely lacking in. These things are definitely the head coaches fault:

- lack of line speed in defence
- piss poor end of sets in attack
- missing tackles (38 misses tonight)
- non existent kick chase
- not defusing kicks.

If the coach is so bloody good and a premiership quality coach, then surely he can fix these basic things.

Sack this fool immediately.
As much as I dislike many of your posts I have to agree with your comments on this occasion.True and well stated.

Absolutely.

He needs time to put in place the systems, procedures & playing roster that will not only bring the club results but also enable Dean Young to succeed him as coach.

I wish everyone would take a chill pill & look at the situation long term. does it tak another 15 years of mismanagement.
Does it take another 15 years of mismanagement!

There is a reason Flanno is only signed until the end of next year. By the looks of it the fan base is split on whether we extend him or not. How anyone can think he deserves an extension is crazy to me, we have gone backwards and I'm sure as bad as our head office are they won't be pressured by Isaac Moses to get a deal done anytime soon. I hope he explores his options and for the clubs sake moves on somewhere else.

Lots of people were critical, sceptical, disparaging re Ryles and applauded S F’s appointment outlining all his pro’s.

Of be interested to know what people think in respect of the following.

Are the Eels and TigPies for that matter closer than us in respect of getting a better roster and climbing out of the cellar dweller syndrome?

We have some good talent coming through in certain positions but no halves, an ageing roster with some still locked in and several bad investments clogging up the place and putting a lot of eggs in the DA basket to help his son stay in 1st grade.

Should S F have achieved more on the basis of what he has said especially in respect of “theirs a team in there” and spending plenty on our ageing big 3?

Flano does not have his roster yet. He still has dead wood like Fifita, Molo, Lawrie etc. hunt leaving at the end of last year was a massive hit. We have the worst halves in the comp. He at least deserves next year to see what he can do, he’s the first coach in years that has actually developed the juniors. The season would look so different if rcouch and Egan didn’t get injured

I think his value on the coaching market has taken a big hit. If you look at the fundamentals and technical analysis, any company with poor results would see its stock price tumble.
To add to his issues, unfortunately for Flanagan, he has 2 major kryptonites: the Illawarra name and DY part of his coaching staff.
The BOD can take there time in extending his contract, like Hook he has until mid 2026 to save his backside, that means he needs to improve his win/loss from 43% to 55%, SIMPLES.

100%, the 2 ACL's have murdered our season.. missing 2 x 20-21yr olds who are in our starting 17 every week... both with insane fitness, energy and defence.. unfortunately with this roster thats good night..... we cant keep pace with the better sides unless we are close to 100%, not for 80 minutes anyway.

TomE is still burning a hole too... we didn't replace him, and Sele/Rava/Lawrie still there for 2026.... plus we extended Sloan, Feagai, CT which is probably atleast 1 too many for next year... Lawson is a 2026 gamble also but lets hope... but all these budget wingers means we dont have a free starting spot to be chasing a gun in that position.

Willie T developed the juniors not S F

S F had no choice but to play them and is now playing T C out of position and persisting with Cook playing a forward utility role which is just plain stupidity

It was Flanagan's choice not to demand changes to club management and football operations when he was appointed as coach.

No one on here thought the BOD would be an issue for Flanagan until now which is strange. When he was appointed the overwhelming majority said his experience would shine through and render the out of touch club management as obsolete, now when it hasn't happened, everyone puts this forward as another bullshit cop out.

Flanagan has used his tenure thus far as an opportunity to revive his and his son's careers and it is clear he will do this at any cost, this was all his doing and now he can suffer the consequences.

I'm starting to change my mind and think Ryles would've been the better option.
Ryles has done much better than I expected but there is no way he would have done better than Flanno under our Club board and management

Just compare Parra's roster with ours
Look at the halves particularly

Firstly, you're forgetting that no other club wanted Flanagan as a coach before we came along. That shows that his reputation as a head coach in the NRL is tarnished and most clubs perceive that he has little to no value to offer them as a coach.
If any other club rated him, he would already be there.

Secondly, Ryles is a much better coach than Flanagan, would Flanagan have had the courage in his conviction to let Gutho go and bring in a promising young fullback? I highly doubt it considering he signed Gutherson to come to the dragons. I'm sure Flanagan would've loved to bring Kyle in to the eels as 'cover' for Moses injuries and then his eyes would've lit up like a Christmas tree when Brown got signed by the knights as that opens a door for his useless son to play full time in the halves.
Would Flanagan have had the foresight to bring in an experienced coach who is also a great talent scout as an assistant in Brownie? No he would've bent over and let the BOD pick someone's son to come and be the assistant instead.

Even look at their leadership qualities in how they deal with the press. Ryles is such a professional, never blames or deflects, keeps his composure, it's very impressive considering how he was as a player. Flanagan on the other hand deflects blame, calls out players on his own team and makes excuses till the cows come home.

It's chalk and cheese and a ridiculous assertion from you.

I would actually have Brownie back, with Brian Smith as assistant. At least with Brownie, he actually understood the St. Illawarra merger culture; he handed Wayne Bennett a fair squad. All WB needed to do was sprinkle his magic dust.

Remember last year we were close to the 8 because we bt origin less Riff and Broncs and still miss.
This year going backwards.
We had Egan and Couchie in rounds v Souths and Eels and still lost.

Juniors can only take you so far
Need to buy big time.

Nothing changed since 2012l.
