Sack Flanagan

As others have pointed out already, and referring back to my post last week, Flanagan won't be replaced and will be HC in '26. Whether or not he gets an extension or is told he won't be HC in '27 won't be made until after Origin '26.
Again, I will say Flanagan has made mistakes, and i believe 1 was made last night in not including NT on the bench.

So, my question to you is "what are the roles and responsibilities of the assistant coaches?"
Yes I agree with your timeline on how decisions will be made relating to Flanagan's coaching future. However I would add that if the current losing streak prolongs, it will add pressure and potentially reduce the timeline.
Where I disagree is your previous statement around win/loss ratios being 'myopic at best'.
To reiterate, it is a competitive sport and coaches are judged on wins and losses alone. I challenge you to find a coach who was extended by a team after three consecutive seasons of less than 50% win loss ratio, there's almost certainly none in the NRL era and I highly doubt Flanagan would be the first.

As for your question around the roles and responsibilities of the assistant coaches, having not been privy to our coaching set up, I couldn't answer that with any degree of certainty. However what I can tell you with certainty and factuality on this topic is:

1) Flanagan appointed both assistant coaches as well as other support staff as all head coaches do.
2) Flanagan kept both assistant coaches on for this season also.
3) It is fair to assume the assistant coaches operate under the direction of the head coach and are not rogue independent actors that do whatever they please and are not accountable.

Considering those three things above, I believe Flanagan is ultimately responsible for the poor performance, be that either directly or indirectly or both, makes no difference. He is an experienced premiership winning coach and there are no excuses for why the team is still performing as badly as it has under our three previous coaches prior to Flanagan's appointment.

Ok, so how do you rate Wayne Bennet as a HC?

Personally I think Flanno is in a world of hurt but will survive the season. He needs to land some big fish for next year and time will be ticking in the first 10-12 rounds to get it right
.....And if Flanno is replaced, who do you think will be his replacement ...... yes, that's right, the Senior Assistant coach. Fxck, if you think we are struggling now, wait until DYoung gets his paws on our team. I'll be parking my multi decade membership for the period he is coach. Can't sit through another 7 years of a coach who hasnt achieved jack shit and is propelled into such a role. I'll also park my Foxtel subscription.

That's not a given, just your illogical thinking.

There's plenty of coaches out there that would do much a better job than Flanagan and I am looking forward to the eventual change of coach.

Me too people calling for Flanagan’s head are clueless especially if they think the club will go out & find someone with any credentials the replacement is already in our system rotting away

Exactly.
People need to think this through. If you truly believe that Dean Young is the answer, then by all means, wish and hope for a Flanno sacking. Because, if Flanno is sacked, your next coach is Deano.........as sure as shit.

Rubbish.

The club could've appointed Deano instead of Hook and they didn't.

They could've appointed Deano instead of Flanagan, they didn't.

You need to let the process play out and if Young ends up as coach, go and have a whinge then.

Haven't you and @mattw5 praised Watsford since he got here and now you're saying he wouldn't be able to appoint a decent coach?

All you're doing is acting as if this is some election between two politicians or something ridiculous, there is a wide world of coaches out there so cross the bridge when we get to it and don't jump to conclusions.

Mind you this wouldn't even be relevant had Flanagan got the team performing.

Flanno after last night can now blame him self for blowing another season away and possibly the first spoon in the history of the Big Red V
Other teams below us are now winning and still 2 points with a bye.
Not dropping his son all season has been why the team isn't playing for the coach so obvious each week not playing for 80 minutes .

Listened to Paul Kent’s podcast the other day they spoke about coaches under pressure he said Flanno is not & we need to stay the course he will get us to where we need to be.

No coach is getting this group of players anywhere.
I'll believe in Shane when he signs us that elite prop he has been trying to get since he arrived, a half back and winger who can attack and defend.

Let's face it. there's a fair few coaches under pressure but not enough talent out there to replace them.

That starts with Daniel Anserson

No.
SFlanno is the one having to face the scrutiny by everyone. How long before he gives in and quits? All too hard. Incompetent corporate structure etc etc. Why should he be the public face whilst the guilty are well hidden? Why put himself under the stress?

I still have faith in him.
Good on you for supporting him but at 33% and dropping fast winning percentage this year you must like the club at the bottom of the ladder

I can't rellax until I know Young has been sacked. I'm sure the new CEO will soon look at sacking:
GM Football - Haran
Millward and Millard
Carr and Young

Weith Flanagan receiving a please explain.
Hi Possm

Is it hard to just sack someone? I hope their contracts end soon. I guess he needs a replacement? When does our new recruitment head from Easts start, and is it confirmed?

The first Three sackings desperately need to happen.

The 4th, I am curious why you think Carr needs to go?

The last one - wow he will have a battle on his hands there. But it must happen. We have the most laughable defence, and he is our defence coach.

They need to keep Flanno. God, if this club can make Flanno look like Poo, then it is more of a shambles then I thought.

Look at the eels this evening, nothing to play for and they turn up at Suncorp and beat the Broncos.

We still had a chance in our season tonight and go up to Townsville and play touch footy against the cowboys.

One team has a great coach who they're playing for and the other doesn't, no prizes for guessing who's who.

How badly I wish we managed to land Rylesy as our coach rather than this incompetent, overrated drug cheat.
The difference being that the eels were at almost full strength, and we have been decimated. Add in the Lomax and Moses Bromance factor.

Don’t worry it sounds like DA like DY will be the next excuse for Flano
The fact that players like to sign with clubs that have coaches they want to play under has nothing to do with why we can’t not sign anyone of note
It has been since we had Griffin that we could not sign anyone of note. I do not think it is the coach. I think it is the location and the lack of facilities. The centre of excellence will fix that.
