He's lost the dressing room.

TBH I think he's surviving because he says the right things when he fronts the media. But whatever he's doing it doesn't work.

Pack your bags Browny.

I was just thinking today about our abiity to attract good players to the club when my thoughts drifted to our home ground. With the Roosters and Penrith getting a flash new stadium, joining Parramatta and Townsville of late, surely Mt Smart, in its current state, is doing us no favours either?

Furthermore, older stadiums tend to deteriorate quicker if they're not used. It's been over two years now for Mt Smart, anyone know how it's looking?

Do we have the NRL's worst stadium?
Worst? Nah, but not that far off these days. I remember when the permanent Eastern stand was first built it actually looked like a half decent club ground for a while, but that was 18-19 years ago and it hasn't had anything bar maintenance since. Not that I blame the club for that really, they're largely victims of the ongoing mess that is the stadium landscape in Auckland, which still hasn't recovered from the times when there were 3 different city councils plus the ARC white-anting each other over any stadium proposals. Auckland needs a full city-wide stadium overhaul with the Blues and Warriors sharing a quality football stadium, and cricket moved to a dedicated facility. But I don;t see it happening.

It was used by Moana Pasifika this year. It just looked the same to me.

The club should have been making something of a triumphant return to Mt Smart in July. Instead, the club is at its lowest ever ebb. We are the worst club in the competition and the signs are that we are only going to get worse. Sack Brown, stick Johnson in reserve grade, sure. But I’d be looking for a new owner and a new board (not sure how that works, but whatever). That mohawk guy seems like a wally anyway. The buck has to stop at the top.

We can also put to bed the notion that the Warriors problems stem in part from being hidden from the intense gaze of the Aussie media spotlight and the success-building pressure it is supposed to create. We’ve tried being in Australia. It made no difference.

Yeah, last nights effort showed the coach isn’t the issue at the club. I actually felt sorry for Nathan Brown tbh, he has been around top level rugby league for over 30 years, he isn’t a complete mug coach that doesn’t prepare them, and they come out and toss that up and every time they panned the camera to the coaches box the look on his face said it all, he is completely empty

Complete overhaul required, starts at the top with Cameron George. He has offered absolutely nothing at all to the club apart from embarrassment. My favourite is the “my phone is ringing hot”

Hard to say, but results need to be forgotten about for a while, and there needs to be a hard nosed approach from whoever has the clipboard in regards to attitude. A Toovey or Mark Graham type of character. 3 players have come out and criticised team mates efforts post match in the space of 2 weeks, clear division in the camp and rumours had Lodge starting it. No matter your name, if the attitude isn’t up to scratch, you’re down a grade

Johnson admitted years ago they gave up on a coach and stopped trying and that culture seems ingrained now. The excuse attitude in the club needs to be beaten out of them, no more chat about refs, travel, being away from home etc, that’s an easy out for the players that they keep taking

It has been in use and looks in great nick. They have been playing some rugby there too.

Brown must see who isn't putting in. Grow a pair and name a team of players who put in every week. If owner overrules you it is time to walk.

Yep…
All very well to say he’s lost the dressing room, but that dressing room isn’t worth finding imo

This is the key. I'm currently in a workplace with bad leadership and it's hard for staff to keep up 100% in the workplace even though we try to for our students (I work in higher ed). It's hard to maintain morale in that kind of environment.

If a player blossoms at another club after being at the Warriors after being considered lazy etc then that just shows that the culture is broken.

Players should always be putting in 100% on the field, but I think because of how your club functions it doesn't look like it.

I really don't think the players and Brown are the issues, it's the owner and George, they've set up the club to rot from the inside and that's what it's doing.

No better example at the moment than Papalii at the eels, he looked reserve grade at best before he left and within 6 games was a totally different player

in fairness to him though, you go from Adam Blair as an example of work ethic to what he will find across the ditch and it is worlds apart

Agreed. George is f**king useless. And Robinson is a mouth with nothing to back it up. I only learned last night that Autex isn't 'his' company - his father founded it. So he's a mini Trump - as a quote in a song once said (paraphrased) 'he was born on third base, and thinks he hit a triple'.

Ugh. Unfortunately that tracks *so* well with this f**king guys behaviour.

Side note RE that quote - is it really from a song? I never knew that, interesting. I only know it as a famous thing an Oklahoma coach once said, and recently was revived by the Michigan coach (about the Ohio State coach). Always amused me.

Well f**k. That explains a hell of a lot, because I’d been wondering how the hell this guy had managed to build a business and make a fortune. A an actual downgrade from Watson (who did at least build his fortune, albeit in a suss way) . I didn’t think that was possible.

As an aside I still think Brown is the wrong coach, but I don’t necessarily think he’s terrible. Just not the man for the job. But who is?
incidentally I read speculation in the paper here that Flanno is out of Bulldogs contention because of some issue with Gould.

I paraphrased it from a Pearl Jam song (Bushleaguer, about George Bush Jnr) - born on third, thinks he got a triple.

Yeah, I thought it was particularly revealing as well. All I hear about is how successful 'my business' is, and how great he is, when he's actually just riding on the coattails of what his Dad did

His Dad founded Autex, was the first business apparently to sponsor a national sporting team, the Kiwis in 1979, and was a massively staunch rugby league guy and by all reports a great businessman and person.

Any fool can inherit a business like that. Robinson Jnr walks around like he's Sergey Brin.

So what can potentially happen if he stuffs up badly? He owns the club but the NRL presumably have some sway in that they can withdraw the club’s license. They most definitely want to keep a club in NZ, and presumably in Auckland, being NZs biggest market. Is there a possibility that the NRL pulls the warriors license and establishes a new NZ franchise? I imagine if that happened most fans wouldn’t mind and would gladly jump ship to the new franchise.

Was talking to a mate last week, he had a job interview with Autex a few years back and it’s the only job interview he has left hoping he never heard back from them
