Saddam Hussein Dead?

Uncomfirmed media reports are circulating re: American claims that they may have killed Saddam Hussein. In one way I certainly hope that these reports can be substantiated, but on another level I'll be disappointed that the scumbag has passed-on quickly and with precious little suffering. If you're not a religious person, a quick death is hardly fitting for miserable swine of Hussein's calibre! This clown is (hopefully 'was') unarguably one of the greatest lowlifes in the entire history of history and years of protracted, agonised, merciless suffering wouldn't have come close to making-up for the decades of anguish that he subjected millions of humans to (mainly his own citizenry). Reports also appear to indicate that they may have also nailed Uday Hussein (the sick bastard) as well, which is the definitive example of a 'two for the price of one' bargain sale. Good riddance to extremely bad rubbish and let us hope that history records this moment as the watershed moment for the long-suffering Iraqi population who have had a dog of a run for way too long now.

Now if we can just find that loathesome cad, Rubbish Bin Liden...

I'm also hopeful that he can be caught alive, as to kill him would only Martyr the prick! We need to get Bin Liden and break him down ruthlessly over time, making it clear to the deluded tools who wish to glorify him that he is just a miserable, cowardly, cheap punk of a man; human in only the most generalist use of the term; with feet of the most foolishly flawedclay. Nothing short of seeing the tosser on global TV, bowed and broken, sobbing uncontrollably and recanting his perverse doctrines of hatred will suffice.

Anyhow, that's what I reckon...

bin Laden should pack raped by a a bunch of mad poofs for the rest of his life if caught alive.

If they capture his sons they should be made to get in on the act or have their old boys cut off.

He may think that would be his heaven.

Let's hope the poofs are hung like elephants.

two quotes sum up America at its worst.
"We can't find the man with the beard, so we've gone for the bloke with the moustache - American Strategist.
"He tried to kill my Daddy" George Bush on why Saddam was any different to any other third world tinpot despot.

This has beenbreaking news here for much of the late afternoon/evening (it's currently 12.45AM Tuesday on the US East Coast).
There is much speculation and assumption from the main players (CNN, FOX, ABC, NBC) but nothing is certain as yet.
I don't see the importance or significancethough. Saddam Hussein and his ways died when troops secured Baghdad...if not well before. Still, however, the world will be a better place knowing thatthe existance of this malevolent and inhumane person is no longer.

There are plenty more Saddams in the pipeline and plenty of Osama Bin Ladens. The Ameriacns saw fit to fund these nasty types to the tune of billions in money and armaments and are now paying an expensive price in order to cashier these two.

The hard part has not even begun for the Yanks. Occupying I raq and being a daily target of every suicide bomber in the locale means the Yanks mortuary business is going to be very busy for quite a while.

The Yanks will get a few of the bombers but many will get through and the resulting carnage will have them wondering whether or the oil they now have is worth all the body parts that they will have to ship home.

I just hope the Aussies wise up and get the hell out of there!

Unfortunately, Beast is right. Guys like Osama bin Laden were set up by the USA. In a nutshell, US foreign policy has a habit of creating monsters.

Saddam and Osama are not the first thugs to hold people to ransom and they won't be the last. I'm still worried about the madness of George W and the new world order.

You won't get any argument from me about the dubious nature of United States foreign policy across the twentieth century and the nasty after effects caused by it.

In so far as the Iraqi people are concerned, however, the Americans are largely extraneous to the long term domestic abuses heaped on them by the insane Hussein. To many westerners, guys like Saddam may be easily dismissed as just another tinpot dictator victimised by the insidious American hyper-capitalist machine, but to millions of people forced to live under oppressive dictatorial rule 24/7, there can be little doubt that the future looks infinitely brighter as a result of this coalition military incursion. It is now up to these same forces to ensure that a similarly savage regime is not allowed to take over where Hussein and his henchmen have left off.

I sympathise with nations who have been used and abused by the Yanks in order to improve their all-encompassing economy. I sympathise more with the everyday downtrodden who are deprived of even the remotest semblance of a democratic lifestyle though.

Ah... well said Kev.. especially the last paragraph. :)

But Saddam used to be mates with the USA.

The joke is that when asked, "How do you know that Saddam has chemical weapons?" , Rumsfeld replied, "...because I have the receipts."

But Saddam used to be mates with the USA.

Indeed, when Iran was public enemy number one during the eighties, Uncle Sam was only too happy to cosy up to the clown and supply him with all manner of weaponry. During the same period they were doing likewise for the Taliban to ensure that the Soviets couldn't take Afghanistan. Leaders like Saddam were allowed to continue to live high on the hog with full Yank support while the embattled minions struggled to eke out an existence in the streets. As such, I'll be happy for the Iraqi people, but I'm not naive enough to think that there is more than just humanitarian reasoning behind this latest American push. Let's hope that "unsubstantiated" links to terrorism aren't put forward in the near future for a similar military incursion into Iran. Bush appears to be similar to our own little Johnny in that he is not particularly adept at keeping domestic issues running smoothly, hence he is always on the look out for an elaborate international incident or exercise in order to distract the general populous. Britain, and the other allies, have been suitably resolute in hammering Hussein... Let's hope that they can show some backbone in keeping the Yanks honest when the dust eventually settles.

Iran's political system resembles democracy. Sure, they have a theocratic system with the Ayatollah being the head of state and they called 'the Islamic Republic of Iran'. But they also havegeneral elections to appoint a President and an independentParliament. The suffrage is 15 years or older and is universal.

The only downside is the Iranian constitution somewhat restrictive and is seemingly top heavy on Islamic principals.

Nevertheless, if we are to believe what the so-called experts say, Washington looks favourably on Iran as having the basis of Democracy, albeit a little crude. By crude, I'm not referring to the oily stuff that comes out of the ground.

To top it off, Iran is completely different proposition with a mountainous terrain and a much larger population. And besides, I don't think Iran has anything that the USA actually wants.

Therefore, I'm of the opinion that a US-led invasion of Iran is very unlikely.

Does anybody really care if the madman is still alive?
Like someone said earlier in this piece: This war stopped being about Sadman the moment it started. I don't really think the Yanks or Brits or their allies give two bob whether he is still in existence. They're accomplishing what they set out for very comfortably...thankyou very much.

Any army in the world, backed up the air power and dominance that the Yanks have could crush the Iraquis as the Yanks and Brits are doing. They have been under sanction for 12 years and are armed with outdated weaponery..weaponery that can suppress a population but not engage a modern professional force.

I note that the chemical and biological weapon stock piles that triggered this war are yet to be flushed out, but I suppose we should give the CIA a chance to fly some over from State side and plant it where they want.

The issue of engaging the Iranians and the Syrians was always on the cards. The Yanks as of 2 weeks ago have reimposed sanctions on Iran, they did not publicise a reason. I believe the Jewish lobby has been very active as usual with encouraging the Yanks to attack the Syrians and the Iranians while they are in the vicinity. The Iranians and Syrians are two countries that Israel wants obliterated after Iraq.

Just as long as nobody mentions the West Bank!

Some Baghdad residents are trying to stop the looting

</td></tr></tbody></table>A senior aide to former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, General Amir al-Saadi, has surrendered to US forces in Baghdad. The general - Saddam Hussein's liaison with UN weapons inspectors in Iraq - is the first from a list of 55 high ranking officials wanted by the United States dead or alive to give himself up. General al-Saadi told German television station ZDF, which filmed his surrender, that he did not know Saddam Hussein's whereabouts. In Baghdad, meanwhile, US marines have begun patrols in another area of the city with no sign of an end to the disorder which has ravaged the capital for the past few days.
