Salary cap to blame not stewart

Gees, that's a long bow to draw...

Especially when the clubs/the game can't sustainably afford the salary cap to remain as high as it is now.

Michael Searle's opinion is much better. He makes good sense as CEO with every quote from him I read.

Todd Greenberg sounded like a really smart CEO to me prior to this. It's a very out there claim though. It's up to the clubs to manage their salary caps. If senior players are so important off the field, then maybe Greenberg and co should go to extra lengths to try and keep them instead of fobbing them off overseas in favour of younger talent.

Why do grown Men supposedly need other "older" grown Men around to point them in the right direction? If a bloke in his 20's doesn't know his limits and when enough is enough, then he needs more than just another bloke there holding his hand. He needs some serious life education imo.

Damn that salary cap for forcing alcohol down Brett Stewarts mouth and then allegedly forcing him upon a teenage girl.

When will we cut down on the antics of this evil salary cap.

There is plenty of truth in what he says, no doubt. But on the other hand, not many teams would be able to exceed even the current salary cap, as far as I can tell, so while this may apply to Manly, probably not to many other clubs.

I think he has a very good point.

The last club I played at had a very strong senior players group who kept the young lads under control. They constantly reminded us who we represented, what we represented and that our image wasnt to be taken lightly.

With experience comes wisdom (hopefully), younger people can do with a bit of maturity and guidance offered by senior guys. You can expect all the maturity you want from an inexperienced kid, but that is not how things work in the real world.

i'm still 20.

i must have a clearer view of stuff than other people my age.

I don't doubt that...

It would not surprise me that young professional footballers may need a little guidance in responsibility...Some do not need any help at all...and hats off to these guys..

Are they saying players like Matt Orford, Glenn Hall, his own big brother, Jamie Lyon etc arent experienced? Nobody forces the clubs to stick the knife in the back of veterans and force them to move on

Should i feel dirty that i agree with Denis Fitzgerald on this :?

You should feel dirtier you agree with gaba.

Theres an element of truth to it. Older blokes have wives and families to go home to and know when to say no.

Not an excuse but it would help.

Isn't this partly the role of the coaching staff? Surely with all the coaches and hangers ons these days it wouldn't be hard to have assistant coaches/ex players involved as "mentors" for younger players, especially at events. At the end of the day Manly decided to create a culture at this event of "go for it lads". Not surprisngly some "went for it". Blame the players, blame the club but please, the salary cap??
