Three players from a few WC qualifiers. Imagine what it would be like if the lesser lights had a half decent international programme.

theres a few serbs that could mix it in NL2 too
The problem is that clubs can't afford to pay for flights/living expenses for these players. I'm fairly sure for example that Russian hooker Roman Ovchinikov could make a decent NL1/lower end of SL player, but no club will ever sign him because for the same cost they could sign an Aussie which would me much less of a gamble.

This is why I think the RFL/RLEF should pay external costs for developing nations players if they are really serious about international development.

getting 1 or 2 over is's a problem for most national league clubs...look at london skolars and the 2 irish guys..

the thing is with the national league, overseas players whether it be aussies, kiwis or now serbian or russians tend to be singned on part time contracts at the club and have another part time contract with a sponsor..

as some might know i touted serbian soni Radovanovic to oldham..if he's been signed i'm in know doubt soni might have been working for the chairmans demolition company 3 or 4 days aweek..

thats the way things go below super league...but shhhshsh i did'nt tell you that.

But if the RFL paid external costs clubs would be bringing players over left right and (excuse the pun) centre. We don't want to get into a situation where the complete Russian and Serb teams are playing in the NL. Although good for the respective countries the RFL would be going down the road as the soccer Premiership at the lower end of the league with regard to foreign players in the game. This might seem a little far fetched at the moment but could eventuate in the not too distant future.

Why would that happen? The clubs would still have to pay players wages, and as the Russians and Serbs aren't as good as English players yet it would be stupid to fill teams with them. They could limit it to something like two or three a team paid for, it would not be hard to implement properly.

Besides, I would have no complaints if RL reached the level of popularity of the Premiership, nor if we had more credible international teams. So it's a winner all round, IMO.

If the RLIF decide to get serious about Russian RL then it's not beyond the realms of fantasy for them to start producing ready made pleyers for the NL. This is great for the Russians but look what's happened in the Premiership. 66% of players in the Premiership are not eligible for England and that rises to 70% when you look at Man U and Chelsea seperately. We've only recently developed a system that's producing some good young BRITISH/ENGLISH players. Yes they would still have to be paid but if you don't have any academy teams you'd have spare cash and the Eastern Europeans would probably come cheaper anyway.

Skolars have 3 genuine Irish. The third one, Griffiths got sent off last week against Queens. The other 2, Kerr and Gibbons are full internationals. Skolars have just signed a second Fijian also, Puna Rasaubale. Though he is Sydney raised.

The RLIF have tried to help Russia for years. It is the Russian RL that need to make a bigger effort to develop their youth, coaches and referees.

If the details in the other thread about Russia are true we might not have to worry about the Ruskies for much longer, they'll be playing union instead.

I don't know about that. Penza have probably gone back to Union, where they came from 3 years ago. Mr Ugly has just uncovered 4 new clubs, 2 of which are in the Ukraine, 2 in Russia. 1 might be the Russian Navy and the other a private company.

So the game is battling on in the face of plenty of money being thrown by the IRB into russian union.

And next to none thrown at it by the RLIF.
