Unfortunately this year only two clubs felt they could enter the league so there will be a home and away play off for the title between Edinburgh Eagles and Aberdeen Warriors

Strathmore will play a one off match against Aberdeen Warriors reserves and there will be a 9s tournament held each at Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Strathmore to complete the 'season'

Personally I think the RLIF and/or RLEF shouls be stepping in to sort Scotland Rugby League because they've fallen so far behind even the likes of Ukraine and Czech Republic in domestic development. It is only because of the hard work Aberdeen Warriors are putting in that the game hasn't folded up there. Shame as Aberdeen Warriors are a very well run club just isolated

So, let me get this straight.

Scotland are Full RLIF members, which is a requirement in order to have the right to participate in a World Cup. The RLIF Full membership criteria is as follows:

To achieve this status a Member should: Have a current approved constitution lodged with the RLIF which shows detailed evidence of governance, membership, elections, meetings and arrangements for dissolution.
Complete and submit to the RLIF annual accounts for at least 12 months prior to application
Publish and lodge with the RLIF annual reports for at least two years prior to approval
Be able to demonstrate the financial stability of the organisation
Operate with a Bank Account in the name of the Federation with at least two signatories on the account. The two signatories must be drawn from the currently elected Board (EG Chair, Treasurer, Vice Chair)
Conduct regular Rugby League Competitions within the country – Competition is defined as a League Competition played under International Laws of Rugby League over a minimum of a 10 week period.
(a) Minimum 8 senior teams
(b) Minimum 4 reserve/U21/Student grade teams
(c) At least 500 registered participants (players, coaches and match officials)
(d) A registered office and admin.
(e) At least a 6 team Junior RL and/or School (Under 18) competition.
(f) Coach Education Scheme approved by the RLIF.
(g) Referees Accreditation Scheme approved by the RLIF
(h) Approved International programme at various levels which must include Full International and may in addition include “A” International, Student International, Junior (Under 18) International. All at Male or Female.

  • Members may be able to source revenue from the above activity by way of fees. This can be extended to include registration fees, sponsorship, government grants, gate and canteen receipts and RLIF grants where applicable.

  • An approved Development Plan, correctly resourced with annual reports lodged with the RLIF

So, when exactly does the RLIF plan to announce that they are revoking Scottish RL's full membership and their automatic spot in WC 2017???

It's nothing short of a DISGRACE. Wales and PNG have fantastic domestic Rugby League development going on, yet they were shunned in favour of Scotland.

Cumbria and North East are too far. Edinburgh to North east is doable but they're probably not good enough for the top flight in the NE. Aberdeen I reckon will end up splitting into three clubs and inviting Edinburgh into a local league

Something really needs to be done about this.
They basically dumped the USA out of an auto-spot because it wasn't a member, Scotland shouldn't be immune.

At least drop them to affiliate status put their auto slot up as a repechage when they don't make they grade.
It would be a massive shame if someone like the Cook Islands miss out because the RLIF wants to play favorites.

Those are the requirements to ACHIEVE such status - that might be your loophole.

However, I agree that unless Scotland get their Open Age domestic system up and running PDQ (i.e. next season) they have to be excluded from the World Cup and their spot given to the next highest European side.

They have no problems with items (b), (c) and (e). (a) is another matter - they have perhaps six senior teams at a generous count and only 2 signed up for the full league (as bowes pointed out). They aren't the only nation that are a bit dodgy on that count however - note the size of the Lebanese league.

Juniors they used to have a half decent set up but last season they scrapped the league so basically there was a 4 team local Aberdeen league at U14s and nothing else

You're right, that may well be it. But last year the RLEF demoted Germany from Affiliate to Observer, why don't the RLIF also review memberships of certain nations?

Just when they were starting to gain an ounce of credibility, something like this happens to make a mockery of the entire set up. I'm sure they'll simply sweep this one under the carpet.

Haha. It's sad times.

Perhaps this will be discussed at the RLIF AGM in May. Seems silly having Scotland in both the 4 Nations and an auto WC spot. It doesn't reflect their domestic development at all.

It's especially sad that their set up is worse than Lebanon, Serbia, Czech Republic, Italy and so on...

yeh, didn't they also knock down Russia from full to affiliate in 2010?

This is a real shame, if any nation was likely to excel in growing RL I thought it would be Scotland given the history of RL and it's working class roots. Also given that their national team's RU team plays an absolutely disgraceful style of Rugby as well.

Agree, this is a sad state of affairs. To think Scotland are in the four nations at the end of the year as well...

No way should they walk into the World Cup.

I've posted this topic on social media and apparently the fixtures list isn't finished, but they also mentioned "rebuilding period".. On Facebook I've noticed a few Scottish clubs still active on facebook and have mentioned their opens teams training (but aren't on the fixtures list yet)

Could there be a correlation between this and the fact Steve McCormack dosnt pick local players? Not much incentive to play when you get completely overlooked for grandparent ring-inns.
I (despite being of Scottish parentage) hope Scotland are stripped of their membership and booted out of the four nations and RLWC.
